The wood floors in this room are original soft pine from the 1860's & we are very proud of the refinishing job we did! There are vintage wooden shutters in this room that date to the early 1940's. One of the twin beds is in an "annex" room that was built as a sewing room with an ironing board built into the wall in 1947. It features a walk in closet. This room now has a window air conditioner for the summer. This bedroom shares a hallway bathroom with the canopy room. The middle bedroom is called the Rose Room after my daughter, who loves to paint roses, and you will see her artwork in that room. It has an incredibly comfortable mattress on the queen bed and en suite bathroom. The bathroom has newly installed tile and a gorgeous vessel sink that is hand-thrown on the wheel by my husband Jack. This room has a ceiling fan, a window air conditioner for summer and an electric fireplace for the colder months. The older part of the house hosts the "Canopy Room", which has exposed original beams & a queen bed under a canopy. Antique dresser and beaded milk glass vases and lamps adorn this space. This room was the servants quarters in the 1940's and still has a back stairway that empties very close to the kitchen. We ask that you not use these stairs, as they are very steep. In the early 1800's, this was probably where they entered the loft bedroom via a ladder. This room has a window air conditioner for summer. The canopy room shares a hallway bathroom with the master king room. Past Guests think this is the most romantic room! The large dining/living room can be used to enjoy catered or take out food from 9 restaurants all within walking distance. The restaurants cover a spectrum of prices and meal choices, from a burger, pizza or gourmet plates. We can help you chose a restaurant and get a reservation for your weekend stay. We enjoy the feel of the dining room, with interesting furniture and lamps. There is a large dining table and it looks lovely set with the vintage dishes that you are welcome to use. Curious about the kitchen..... You may use the kitchen for informal cooking. It is still in original condition as it was installed in 1947! There is countertop induction portable cooktop (2 burners), a toaster oven, George Foreman Grill, a "cottage-size" refrigerator, vintage wall oven, microwave, keurig machine (coffee pods provided), crock pot, coffee pot (all sorts of coffee & sweeteners are provided), blender. We will have mugs, vintage dishes, bowls, silverware & wine glasses for you to use. There is no dishwasher, so you will need to wash the dishes you use and return them to the cupboards. I will provide common kitchen cleaning supplies and trash bags. The kitchen remains as the greatest throw back to older times. We decided to leave it as it was originally installed, circa 1947. We have records that new ovens were installed in 1955 & they still work! Recently, a mason told us the brick walls look like 19th century work. Eighty years of a family's life was left in the attic and cupboards, so we were able to display and even reuse many items from a bygone era. Just outside the kitchen is the original room of the house, with a grand fireplace and rockers for you to relax. The walls in that space are the original plaster walls, we didn't paint over them! In the winter, we will set up your first wood fire for you to enjoy free of charge. We appreciate a small fee to pay for additional fires. We provide hardwood that is cut from trees on the property and prefer that you do not purchase other wood. We want to meet with you when you arrive to show you how to set up the fire and enjoy it safely. We purchased the property 5 years ago, and spent 3.5 years restoring this unique house. The lower floor is solid 14" of limestone. That keeps the lower floor cooler in the summer! You will notice the thickness of the walls when you see the very deep window sills in the living room and kitchen. Speaking of windows, most of the glass panes are hand-blown in the late 1800's. It was painstaking work to replace broken panes with antique glass, and all the wood windows are reglazed and restored. It really is interesting to look through the glass! We have tried to decorate and incorporate furniture that are time period. I am not an antique expert, but you will feel like you are in another century when you are in the Rocker Room! We have acquired some antiques for the large living room, and there are several vintage books, magazines, decorations that were left at the house by the previous famous owners. When was the last time you read a magazine from the 40's! We recently added a Smart TV in the living room. Please remember your own passwords to the streaming services you prefer. Our space invites families to talk over a puzzle, play games and enjoy the area. Several of our guests mentioned they didn't even turn on the TV, but really enjoyed the puzzle on the piano! There is outdoor seating you may use in the front yard. It is set under a large tree and there is some privacy from the road. The backyard is not ready for guests yet & you will see us working in the far back yard this summer as we continue to make improvements. If you want to know the history of this home or know why we named it the Honeyhouse, just contact us! Guest access Park directly in the driveway that is located on Alexander Dr. We can accommodate up to 3 vehicles, and there are 3 more free public spaces just on the edge of the property on Main Street. Please park your cars in a line to one side of our wide driveway, we need a pass through deep onto the property. Other things to note We can set up an additional twin bed for you. Just ask! It would be an extra $30. After 8 guests, there is an additional $50 fee/day for extra person. We ask for no more than 9 adults.
