Mabry Creek Cottage is in the only part of Virginia with NO light pollution, so the stargazing is AMAZING! Up to 10 guests can stay in the cottage and have plenty of space to spread out. The 10th guest would use the sitting area converted to a sleeping area in the primary bedroom (a single open suite shared by the primary bed and the sitting /sleeping area); this sitting/sleeping area can support two small children under 6 or 1 adult. The water comes from a natural spring. No need to bring bottled water with you. The water is delicious. Your hair will look great, too! We use no pesticides, fertilizers, or chemicals on any of the 20 acres. The house is 99% plastic-free. We use only natural cleaning products. Everything we purchased for the house is cruelty-free and vegan. The house is filled with local handicrafts supporting local artisans and craftspeople. We care deeply about the environment and plan to make even more changes in the future. On the property: explore the 20 acres filled with unspoiled nature. Watch wildlife from the front porch or back deck, play games in the historic 1820's chestnut barn built by the Mabry Family, the original settlers of the area. Kick back in the new barn lounge complete with billiards, foosball, ping pong, magnetic darts, and bar. Just BYOB and you're all set! Relax by reading a book from one of the four libraries (one is just for kids and one is just for cooks!). Take a walk through the forest down to the creek, soak in the hot tub, have a family BBQ, reconnect over a board game, watch DVDs from the large collection, play a game of corn hole, volleyball, badminton, soccer, or cook a gourmet meal in the well-equipped kitchen with European fridge and mini dishwasher and 5 burner range with griddle and convection oven plus many small appliances, dishes, glasses, cooking and baking utensils, serverware, and more. Please note: the new barn lounge is gorgeous and located inside a rustic old storage room in an 1820's building. It is currently is not temperature-controlled. The Dugspur Deli Mart is a convenience store with a gas station just 5 minutes away. The Hillmont Mercantile and the Food Lion in Hillsville are both just 15-20 minutes away and the general stores in both Willis and Hillsville as well as Dollar General are all only 15 minutes away, though you'll feel like you're in the middle of nowhere and my, it is glorious. You'll be hard-pressed to find cleaner air and water, and once you visit, you'll definitely want to come back. For those who wish to work remotely, we provide free WiFi, a wireless printer, a desk and desk chair with a really beautiful view. There is a 65" smart TV in the family room. High speed internet allows for streaming your favorite movies and TV shows using your own accounts. We also provide over 400 DVDs, a DVD player and an Xbox Series X gaming system with games. There is a propane stove fireplace in the great room that is active in the fall and winter. The primary bedroom has a mantel filled with remote-controlled candles for instant ambiance. GIVING BACK We have three empty pantry shelves set up for donations to local people in need. Our staff will donate unopened boxed or canned food items to local families in need. We have created a comprehensive guide book filled with our favorite spots and recommendations and are here to help make your trip here memorable. ** We leave a day in between all bookings to carefully sanitize the entire home. We take COVID very seriously and do everything we can to ensure a safe, clean, and healthy space for all of our guests and staff. ** LOCATION: Just 14 minutes from Floyd Yoga Jam! Guest access Guests have full access to the entire property. Other things to note Complimentary bottle of local Virginia wine with each booking. LATE CHECKOUT: For those that may be interested, we do offer the possibility of a late checkout for an extra charge of $150 (allows for a checkout up until 6pm on the day of scheduled departure). This amount helps us cover the costs our caretakers charge us for working after hours in order to prepare the house for our next guests. It typically takes them a full 8 hours to clean the entire house, including all linens, towels, hot tub, etc. In order to be able to checkout late, guests would first need to make a request so that we can then confirm with our caretakers that they are available in the late afternoon / early evening on the date of checkout. If confirmed, the $150 would be charged to the guest on the day of check-in via the app. CHILDREN: For those bringing their little ones, let us know and we can set up our child package free of charge which includes: - baby gates - door knob covers - booster seat - pack and play with linens - plates, bowls, cups and utensils PETS: We welcome up to 2 well-behaved, house-trained dogs. The pet fee is $75 for up to 7 days (for stays greater than 7 days, we will need to charge more [please reach out to us for additional details]). 100% of this fee goes to our cleaning staff who require more time to do a thorough cleaning. Please note that we love animals and have 2 dogs of our own. The cleaning fee is for pet hair and dander removal and cleaning of items like drapes, rugs, etc. for our next guests who may be allergic to animals. Please note that there are no fences on the property. As such, leashes are strongly encouraged to keep pets safe from potential wildlife encounters and to prevent them from roaming. BBQ GRILL: We offer a charcoal barbecue grill with a large cast-iron, porcelain-coated cooking surface of 32”x18”, adjustable grates that move up and down enabling one to control the temperature applied to the food, stainless steel cover for retaining heat and built-in thermometer. We also provide a comprehensive grill cooking kit and heat-resistant gloves. To use the grill, guests must adhere to the following rules: - guests will need to obtain / provide charcoal and lighter fluid - the grill must be used on the stone patio away from the house - the grill must be cleaned after each use to deter wildlife from either damaging it or coming close to the house and for the next guest to enjoy. Please remove all food debris from the entire grill (both inside and out), including the grates, side tables and lid, and, once FULLY COOLED WITH NO EMBERS, please dispose of the ash contained in the removable tray in the fire pit. Please note that if the grill is left dirty, there will be a $25 cleaning fee. This fee goes directly to our cleaning service who charges us for cleaning the grill. In addition, if the grill is left dirty and is damaged by wildlife, guests will be charged $400 for its replacement. NUMBER OF GUESTS: To make the cottage more affordable for couples and smaller families, our nightly price is lower for 6 guests or fewer. Guests 7, 8, 9 and 10 pay only $25 each per night additional. This is automatic through AIrBnB when you book. Please understand that these requirements are necessary for us to be able to provide these amenities for all guests to enjoy.
