The Writer's Refuge offers solitude to writers and other creatives who need to get away to focus on their work. Tucked into the woods, it’s a cozy place to write—especially when rain patters on the metal roof and a fire crackles in the wood stove. The space The Writer's Refuge is a place where writers and other creatives can escape the distractions of everyday life and devote themselves fully to their work. This means single occupancy and the deliberate absence of amenities such as a television and DVD player. It also means the presence of supportive technologies such as Wi-Fi and a printer. The cabin looks like it sprouted out of the forest that surrounds it. Although it's 90 square feet bigger than Thoreau’s cabin on Walden Pond, it's small enough to hold you close and keep you focused on your writing. You'll be productive at the drop-front desk, which features Wi-Fi, a printer, and some office supplies; enjoy reading in the recliner by the warmth of a fire in the wood stove, nourish yourself well in the fully-equipped kitchen; and enjoy listening to the birds while writing in the Adirondack chair on the screened porch. For our coffee drinkers, we provide a Mr. Coffee brewer, filters and coffee grinder. You can bring your favorite beans and grind them fresh. Guest access You'll have access to the cabin, the screened porch (some choose to sleep there in summer), and the yard of the cabin (which features an outdoor fireplace). Other things to note There are many places on airbnb for tourists to stay on Whidbey Island. If you don't have a literary, artistic, or musical project to work on, please do NOT book the Writer's Refuge. You'll be taking it away from those who truly need it. But if you love a writer, a stay at the Writer's Refuge is the best gift ever! The Writer's Refuge is on Whidbey Island in Washington State. From the south, you'll take the Mukilteo ferry to Clinton (a ~15-minute crossing). From the north, you'll take the Deception Pass bridge. Yes, you can do this without a car. It's possible to get very close to the Foxglove cabin from the SeaTac airport using the Whidbey SeaTac shuttle. The shuttle drops you off in Bayview, right by the Goose Community Grocer, where you can do your grocery shopping. From there, you can call a cab (All Island Express Taxi: 360-341-8294) to take you the rest of the way (~2 miles) to the cabin. If you like, you can rent a bike at Half Link Bicycle Shop for the duration of your stay (~1.5 miles from the cabin).
