Rio Bravo Ranch - STAR PARTY Campsite
Star Party is a high clearance, 4X4-only accessible group site. The shade structure here is larger (16 feet wide X 12 feet deep) than those at RB1 and RB2. The portapotty, shower, wood and water are all a 10 minute drive from this site. There are multiple sandy spots to secure your multiple tents. If you are looking for the most isolated campsite currently available at Rio Bravo Ranch, this is it. It will be you, the howl of the coyotes and the stars. We hope you'll book Star Party today! The first half of the road to Star Party is composed of large loose rocks, 6"-12" in size that can easily puncture a low lying oil pain. The last half is along a drainage and is occasionally washed out with big rains. There is an 80-yard run of sand where 4X4 is all but mandatory. THIS CAMPSITE IS LOCATED ON A MILDLY IMPROVED RANCH ROAD AND THERE ARE BUSHES/CATCLAW/ALLTHORN/MESQUITE THAT CAN GROW INTO THE ROAD AND MAY SCRATCH YOUR VEHICLE. WE TRY TO KEEP THEM CUT BACK REASONABLY, BUT SCRATCHES ARE POSSIBLE ON THE ROUTE TO THIS SITE. IF YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT VEHICLE SCRATCHES, DO NOT BOOK THIS SITE. IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER TRAILER THAN AN OVERLAND STYLE TRAILER, DO NOT BOOK THIS SITE, RATHER LOOK AT RB1 WHICH CAN ACCOMMODATE A TRAVEL TRAILER. There is no cell service at this site proper, but you can usually get cell service if you climb to the top of the adjacent 30-ft high hill. We get AT&T service there anyway. We do not live at Rio Bravo Ranch; however, we are always simply a phone call or text away from our campers. We remain in close communication before, during and after your trip to make sure you have the best experience possible. At Rio Bravo Ranch we love having the opportunity to share our family land with you and yours. We hope you find it to be a place you can bring your cares/concerns and have them quickly fade to the far reaches of your mind. Your sole focus will be enjoyment of the vast ruggedness of Far West Texas. It is true, there are many glamorous places to stay to be seen in the area. We have stayed in and love these places as well. At Rio Bravo Ranch we hope to offer something unique to our end of FM 170. On our end of the River Road, access to prepared food and basic services decline a bit. The area has unique culture, that cannot be appreciated by simply driving through. We offer Rio Bravo Ranch, 1200 wild and untamed acres of Chihuahuan desert which extends from the banks of the Rio Grande River, across Alamito Creek where one can easily become lost in a rather large and dense riparian area unique to our ranch, then rising out of the floodplain into the long, centuries old arroyos of “El otra lado”. A first glance, “el otra lado” seems benign and flat, but this ground level assessment belies the truth. Take off walking in any direction and you will soon find yourself traversing Arroyos that vary from 10 - 100 feet deep. The vegetation changes within these shallow Arroyos and you will find 4 wing saltbush, wolf berry, sugar bean mesquite, Allthorn, Texas Adolphia, Boquillas Silverleaf, Apache Plume, Agarita, Slimleaf vauquelina, Desert yaupon, Black dalea, Lotebush among others. Wildlife including collared peccary, Mule Deer, Kangaroo rats, Jackrabbit, rattlesnakes, Wild hogs, Barbary sheep, etc. can be spotted in these draws as they provide shade, protection from the wind and browse. Our primary campsites are on “El otra lado,” being as far as we can get them from the main house. We effort to make each site unique with a defining characteristic whether it be a geographic feature or a unique vista of the surrounding mountains in the US or Mexico.
