Cozy cabin - built by my dad and I - located on working farm with ponds, fields, privacy, and wildlife. Working farm crops range from alfalfa, wheat, and corn. There are cattle on the backend of the property. And yes, we have three Nigerian Goats who you can visit with! The farm was part of the Long Family Farm which was land granted to them by Thomas Jefferson in the early 1800's. My father purchased his section of the land late 1980's. The space Last year we welcomed three baby Nigerian Goats to the farm. Luke (who's your father), Hans (Goatso), and Mavrick (GOOSE!!!!!!)(his aliases is "Duce Bigalo Goat Giglio), Extra points if you get the names :) Let us know if you'd like to visit "farm attire" as they like to jump up on things and PEOPLE! We also have Deer, Cattle (at times), Bald Eagles, Foxes, a Black Bear (very shy living up on the big hill), Groundhogs, and other animals who visit throughout the day. Also, the cabin is located on acres and acres of farmland that you are free to wander, with beautiful sunset views, clear nights that the Milkyway can be seen, and fresh air. This IS the main reason we have opened our home / cabin for your visit. Last year we purchased a 1940 Allis Chalmers Big 'B' Orange Farm Tractor (Clementine is her name), which will not only be used for lite farm work, but we will be offering HAYRIDES to our guest around the farm and area. Please contact us for more information ___________________________________________________ The cabin was built in the early 1990's as a place to stay for my mom and dad, prior to building the main house about 2,000 feet up the "hill" from the cabin. I built it myself (with help of my dad) during my college years; now I am an architect / builder. The cabin has been used by family members over the years, is appointed with rustic mid-western style furniture, and is a great retreat for a single professional, couple, family up to 6, and even 2 couples. Up until a few years ago the cabin was used by members of the US Forest Service as a home away from home, as well as leased out to a few professional couples who decided to "get away from city life". The Cabin (or as my dad likes to call it "The Shed") is sited next to a 1 acre pond which has bass and other fish, guest are welcomed to fish the pond - bring your own rod and tackle - but please practice catch and release. The cabin is not perfect! It has a few issues, but nothing to keep you from having a wonder experience staying on the farm and in the cabin. Dogs are more than welcome! We can host up to two. All we ask is to keep them of the furniture and to please clean up after them. A$50 dog fee (per dog) will be added to the cost of the cleaning to pay for extra cleaning of dog hair. We ask that you please clean up after your dog, and that you keep dogs off the furniture. Please beware! There is a "herd" of deer - numbering about 40 that live on the farm, as well as surrounding farms, so if you have dogs this may be a new experience for them (the dogs). No worries, the deer take care of themselves just fine as my dad's little dog has tried her best to catch them. It's never happens :) The bed arrangement is as follows: 1 queen bed in the Bedroom 1 queen sleeper sofa in the Main Living Space There is space in the Main Living Space for 1 or 2 sleeping bags (not provided) On / In the screened in porch, 2-3 air mattress (which can be found in a large wicker basket) can be set up Guest access The farm is located of a rural road which connects (less than a mile) state highway 340. The main entry to the farm, located next to a church built in the late 1800's, have white picket fences Guest are welcome to walk the surround farmland, fish 2 ponds, and enjoy the serenity of the silence of the farm. Due to the current health crisis we cannot offer early check-in as we are cleaning and sanitizing the cabin, per Airbnb and CDC guidelines, in-between guest and prior the 3pm check-in time. Also, we cannot offer extend Checkout time past 11am. Please park in the designated space, which is located at the edge of the woods / open field, about a 100 ft. walk from the cabin. PLEASE DO NOT DRIVE UP TO THE CABIN. There is a Yellow Wheel barrel to use for loading / unloading. Other things to note Points of interest: + Luray Caverns is located approximately 6 miles from property. + Town of Luray, with restaurants and shops, approx. 4 miles from cabin. + Town of Stanley is located approximately 4 years miles from cabin. + Harrisonburg is approximately 35 miles. + Washington DC approximately 70 miles. (I-66 to Front Royal / RT. 340) + Skyline Drive (mountain located east of cabin) approximately 10 miles to the entrance. + Massanutten Mountain is located about 15 miles (line of sight from cabin). + Massanuten Ski / Resort is approximately 25 miles. + My dad is the ex-president of the PATC (Potomac Appalachian Trail Club), has hiked the whole trail, and can give you great in-sight of the trail, areas, etc. (please ask him any question about Skyline Drive and the Trail as he would love to help you plan your journey). + During the summer a past-time is to layout in the fields and count Shooting Stars. One evening I counted no less that 100; see how many you can count, let us know! + Since it is a working farm please don't be surprised by the mooing of cows in the fields, or the peacocks down at the original farm house, as the sun raises. + The Shenandoah River is a short drive (about 15 mins) with access to boat ramps. Tubing is a favorite! I have tubed with friends from the inlet of 340 / 211 access to just a little south of Front Royal. It's a lazy all day event, fun to bring coolers with drinks and food. + I'd like to suggest that if more than 4 people / children are staying at the cabin, please bring sleeping bags / air mattress to accommodate since there is only a queen bed in the bedroom, and a pull out sofa bed (queen) in the main living space. There is enough room on the screened in porch to place air mattresses / sleeping bags. + The cabin water heater is small. Unfortunately, if you take a 15 minute shower, you'll run out of warm water and have to wait a few hours for the heater to produce hot water. + Space heaters are provided since there is no central heating. + There are Window Unit AC's in the Cabin + You may use the fire-stove, my dad can show you how to damper the air. The stove will heat up the cabin very well throughout the main space. + PLEASE BE ADVISE THERE IS NOT TV IN THE CABIN - NO WIFI + Fishing is allowed - NO FISH GEAR AND TACKLE IS PROVIDED + Please provide your own FIREPIT wood - do not use the firewood for the interior wood burning stove.
