Your dream cabin awaits you, right on the shores of pristine Wabikon Lake. During your stay, you’ll be in one of only four structures situated on the shoreline, surrounded by protected forests. The brand-new Uno was completed in 2019, replacing original rustic fishing cabins constructed in the 1920's. Whether you want to pack your trip full of adventure or just curl up in a cozy nook to get lost in a book or the nature surrounding you, Piacenza’s on Wabikon will become your go-to spot. The space SETTING: Piacenza’s On Wabikon’s two cabins (UNO & DUÈ) are nestled on the shore of Wabikon Lake, amongst a fishing resort that has been in my family since 1947. A rarity, both cabins are feet from the lake, offering endless views and seclusion. A sister lake - Riley Lake - is reachable by a quick boat/kayak trip (there’s a small creek that connects the two lakes). Both lakes are fully-protected and remain undeveloped outside of our two cabins and the adjacent fishing resort – truly rare and refreshing in this part of the state. The Chequamegon-Nicolet Forest and Wabikon State Natural Area will envelop you in their splendor, offering endless exploration of water and land. The Wabikon Forest Plot is one of only six in the world (!) being studied by the Smithsonian Institute for its diverse natural growth. The fishing resort has attracted many generations of nature-seekers and anglers who keep coming back year after year. We’re proud to share that history and nostalgia with our guests. We invite you to step back a few decades in time and into the history of our family and Wisconsin’s famed Northwoods, all while experiencing the comforts of today (full kitchen, Wi-Fi, heating, a/c, etc.). Completed in 2019, the cabins were crafted using local materials like cedar, oak, pine, and stone, sourced by a celebrated local builder. Wabikon and Riley Lakes and the protected forests they’re surrounded by are ripe for exploration and ready to help you make lasting memories. Enjoy: Fishing – of course, there are plenty of trophy muskie, pike, bass and panfish to be caught in Wabikon and its connected, spring-fed sibling, Riley Lake. Paddling – Wabikon and Riley lakes cater to anglers and nature-seekers, meaning you won’t need to worry about dealing with big boat wakes and jet skis or water skiers. Boating – There’s plenty of exploring to be had by boat, (and if you want to get the tube or water skis out for the family, Lake Lucerne, Silver Lake and more are just down the road). Wabikon is a quiet lake: no water skiing or jet skis. Bring your kayaks or check with us for availability. Hiking – there are primitive trails within walking distance and plenty of well-maintained local trails (including some waterfalls) within a short drive Cycling – newly-constructed mountain bike trails are just across the road at Otter Springs Recreation Area or explore Wisconsin’s gravel roads for miles and miles. Plus, in the winter: snowshoeing, ice fishing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and plenty more! SPACE: “UNO” - THE SUNNY STUDIO CABIN is a one-room open design concept featuring a full-sized, stocked kitchen and a full bathroom/shower. Upon entering the cabin, you’ll notice the wall of windows overlooking the lake, inviting the great outdoors in; perfect for full-day viewing. In the center of the cabin rests a large wooden (bar height) table with four stools serving double duty as a kitchen island and eating area. The cabin and its tremendous views make for great, reduced-stress remote work, as well. UNO is complete with a West Elm Enzo sectional, pulling out into a comfortable queen-sized bed. We’ve added a 3” memory phone mattress topper for extra comfort, complete with sheets, quilts and plenty of pillows. Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea on your private deck, as you watch the sun rise and appreciate nature all around you. Outdoor stairs lead to another completely secluded lakeside patio under the cabin (one of our daughters’ favorite spots on the entire compound). UNO and its lakeside deck are fully wheelchair accessible and was even designed by a man using a wheelchair. We hope you enjoy this special property, built on a great tradition of family respect for history and natural resources. We rent two cabins: UNO (sleeps 1-2) and DUÈ (sleeps 1-4). The cabins are 20-feet apart for privacy or can be rented together for larger family gatherings. While unplugging and unwinding is certainly encouraged Wi-Fi and cell signal boosters are in both cabins. BOATING/PRIVATE PIER: The public boat landing is less than ¼ mile down the road. There is plenty of room to park your trailer and vehicle near the cabin. You may dock your boat at our private pier. Bring your own kayak or ask us about availability… we have 2 kayaks for your use. SOME HISTORY: This special piece of lakeshore is our family legacy, established in 1947 by my parents, John and June Aschenbrenner. Their lease included 9 tiny cabins, 5 outhouses, a bar and caretaker’s shack, a small generator, hand-pump well, and a couple gas lights. They closed after deer hunting season in Late November and re-opened May 1 which was “opening day” for fishing back then. My brother Johnnie and I grew up on the lake and attended Laona schools. After our parents' deaths, we split the land so both families could share the shoreline. We rebuilt two cabins (in footprints of the original three) for our family retreat. We carefully rebuilt the cabins in the footprint of 3 old cabins built in the 1920’s. Guest access Our property is yours to enjoy. Two lakeside decks per cabin (upper and lower). Most times we will welcome you personally to the property. Other things to note Please read house rules before booking. Our family cabins were built in 2019; built in the footprints of 1920's cabins and campsites. My parents started leasing this special place in 1947, and it has been family owned and run continuously since then. This land is our family retreat and is truly loved. We welcome you to relax, unplug, and breathe in this sanctuary. It is our hope that you will love your stay and return again and again. Excellent internet is provided by Starlink and we have cell signal boosters on each cabin. While you may see other northern Wisconsin cabins, none will come with the family history, the artistry of builder Final Touch Construction of Crandon, WI, and extreme attention to detail in the decorations. I will do everything I can to make your visit a relaxing and pleasant one. I extend my family's home to you.
