Stay in Robert Frost's beautiful house
From 1931 to 1938, Robert Frost lived in this gracious 1874 house, located on a quiet, lovely Amherst street a short walk from town, Amherst College, and UMass. The house can be yours for a country getaway, family get-together, or reunion/graduation weekend. High-ceilinged, private, full of remarkable details, and surrounded by beautiful old trees, this is a piece of Amherst history that is ready for your convivial group. The space The house is grand but cheerful, with excellent light. Downstairs there is a spacious living room, sitting room, dining room, study, front hall, and foyer, and large, renovated kitchen furnished with high-quality appliances and cooking equipment (plus a great pantry). Upstairs there are three bedrooms as currently configured, with 1 each king, queen, and full beds. The house has three bathrooms upstairs (1 with bath, 2 with shower, 1 of which is en-suite with Bedroom 1) and a half-bath downstairs. Some special features of the house are its beautiful inlaid floors downstairs, original windows, and many quirky and interesting details such as a pass-through window from pantry to dining room, and a built-in bookcase that once housed Robert Frost's own books. The property is nearly an acre, with many special old trees, including a linden out front. There is a large lawn with a small pool, open in the summer months. A deck off the kitchen allows for outdoor dining. The house was built in 1874 for an early UMass professor, HH Goodell, whose descendants sold it to Robert and Elinor Frost in 1931, who lived in it until 1938. The house is both comfortable and historically interesting. Given that it's our own family's house (which we'll be temporarily vacating), we appreciate guests who treat it with respect - though of course we also want you to make yourself at home and enjoy the place. Guest access Guests may enter and use all of the house except the attic and basement. Other things to note There is a pool, usually open mid-May to early September. If it is open and you are interested in using it, we would ask you to sign a waiver first. The same goes for the trampoline (12 ft., with net).
