Private island with rustic cabin on large lake
Rent your own private island with stunning views of Katahdin on the fifth largest lake in Maine. You will have total privacy with no other buildings within a half mile of the 1/2 acre island. The island has a rustic 475 sq ft 1 1/2 story camp. It is totally off the grid, but has excellent cell phone/wireless connectivity. The lake is large and clean and mostly undeveloped. There are miles of shoreline with remote beaches and islands to explore. You will need a boat to get to the island. The cabin has a kitchen/ living area. The kitchen is equipped with basic cooking and eating utensils. There is a futon, a table and chairs, a 4 burner propane cooktop, a 6 cubic foot propane refrigerator/freezer, and a sink with a hand pump for water from the lake. There is also a bedroom with a queen size bed on the main floor and a sleeping loft upstairs with two twin beds. There are rechargeable LED lanterns to provide lighting inside. The lanterns and cell phones and other devices using USB charging ports can be recharged by a small solar system. The cabin has a deck outside the entrance. There is also a propane grill, a picnic table and a firepit. The outhouse is new and clean. The island has a 16 foot dock and a mooring for your boat. The entire island is available exclusively to guests. You will need to bring your boat to get to the island. I live on the lake about 3 miles from the island and will meet you to check in and check out. The island is about 4 miles from the boat ramp where you may leave your vehicle. You will need a boat to get to the island. It is a big lake that can get windy and rough. A few guests have used canoes or kayaks to get to the island, but there are days when that is not feasible or safe because of the wind. The boat ramp is about 6 miles south of Millinocket on Rt 11. Millinocket has stores and restaurants and is the gateway to Baxter State Park, Katahdin, and the new Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument. There is a store with a dock on the lake which has a limited variety of groceries, gas, ice, etc. They also have an excellent deli operation with breakfast, sandwiches, pizzas, etc. The Big Moose Inn is also accessible by boat and has a full service restaurant and a pub. You will need to bring sleeping bags, or bed linens. We provide pillows and clean pillow cases. There is one queen bed in the downstairs bedroom and two twin beds and a full size double bed in the sleeping loft. Toilet paper is provided. Bring your own towels. The kitchen is supplied with only basics such as salt, pepper and dish soap. You will need to bring your own drinking water. Please contact me if you have any specific questions about anything you will need to bring.
