The space Enjoy your own private Guest Suite tucked at the far end of a five acre forest/garden sanctuary, 20 minutes from Bainbridge Island or charming Poulsbo, ten minutes from historic Port Gamble & the Hood Canal Bridge. Start your travels with an relaxing ferry ride over the Puget Sound from Edmonds. Peaceful forest setting, second story deck, wood-burning stove, lush, nationally renowned gardens and full privacy await you. The Olympic National Forest, Port Townsend, Port Angeles and Sequim's lovely lavender fields are only 45-60-min away. After a day of taking in nearby restaurants, antique shops, hiking & biking local trails, kayaking on the Hood Canal, or ferrying over from Edmonds (30 min) – come on "home" to your own private wooded retreat! A light-filled spacious, comfy deluxe Suite awaits you, with all the amenities you'd expect in a woodsy retreat. Your Guest Suite/Apt is completely private, fully self-contained. It is situated in a separate building some 500 feet from the main house, connected by wooded trails. You’ll have your own patio, and the use of the studio + full bathroom, situated on the second story above a separate garage outbuilding. Your hosts will be in the main house at the entrance to the property, available but completely separate from your experience. Guests are welcome to wander the grounds and enjoy the gardens, including the use of a covered, outdoor seating area. Plenty of parking on the grounds. The main sleeping area/bedroom features a plush, unique, hand-built queen bed with soft down bedding, a sofa (we can supply added linens if a guest wishes to sleep on it), a gas fireplace to use if you choose and a small kitchenette. You’ll have use of an electric skillet, kettle, microwave, toaster oven, refrigerator and coffee maker (no stovetop at this time). Step out to your deck and enjoy lush forest views. We have reliable DSL wifi in the studio and though the television is not cable-ready there is a digital antenna that picks up some local channels, and a blu-ray DVD player with a moderate movie library. As well, the smart tv will pick up Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc). You will find a GUEST HANDBOOK when you arrive with all the specifics you may need to know during your stay. You will also find plenty of local travel guides/maps and a THINGS TO DO binder with recommendations for the immediate area and larger region. We’ll have contact information for you in case you need us at any time. You'll enjoy little Poulsbo, a Scandinavian fishing village in the late 1800's and today is known as "Little Norway." Poulsbo's historic district features lots of yummy restaurants (don't miss Sluys Danish bakery or the organic ice cream treats at Mora) shops, antique stores and galleries. Just over Agate Pass Bridge you'll find the popular destination of Bainbridge Island (20 min). Shop and eat there, or tour the local galleries and fabulous new art museum. Kid's museum too! Or let the Bainbridge Ferry whisk you across the Puget Sound to downtown Seattle (25 min) and wander through Pike Place Market, historic Pioneer Square, the museums and more. For the outdoors-inclined - there are countless nature walks, hiking trails, creeks, beaches and waterways to enjoy in the region on Puget Sound and Hood Canal - a favorite for kayakers. Gig Harbor, Bremerton, Port Gamble are also favorite local destinations. The region is expansive - and you will definitely need your own car. Please anticipate approximately 60-90 min of travel time from Seattle Airport, including a 20-min drive from airport to ferry, 35-min ferry ride via either the downtown Seattle-Bainbridge route, or Edmonds Ferry to Kingston and then 10-min to the house. *Note travel time during "rush hour" may be longer. You can also take the slightly longer land route, heading south from the airport, forking left from Interstate Hwy 5 near Tacoma, heading north on Hwy 16 to the Kitsap Peninsula (1.5 hours). I can provide more specific driving/ferry directions. GPS is very helpful, though the turnoff to our drive can be easy to miss. Just a few things... - We are a "pet friendly" place (See caveats below): While we clean thoroughly between guests, if you have allergies to dogs and/or cats, this might not be the best space for you. ~ We appreciate knowing in advance your approximate arrival time. ~ As mentioned, there is a sink/skillet/microwave/toaster oven/refrigerator/coffee maker etc, perfect for light cooking, deli and takeout, etc - but please do note there is not a full kitchen. Plenty of great local restaurants and nearby take-out for your major meals! ~ Traveling via car by ferry? Do allow yourself enough time to catch your selected ferry. Check the Washington State Ferry website the day before or day of travel to be sure about departure/arrival times. NOTE: From May to September ferry wait times on Friday evening can be quite long! Double check with the WSF site to be certain. Thank you! Guest access Guests may explore the gardens on the property, though we ask that you check with us if you wish to explore the garden very close to the main house. For the most part it’s no problem at all if we know ahead of time! Other things to note We love dogs, and we love dog lovers! That being said, we do ask a few things if they are tagging along with you: Dogs must please remain on leash unless there are special circumstances (usually if they are only up at the site it's okay to let them move around if they are compliant. But if exploring the wider property, please leash them) . We ask that guests don't leave dogs free in the space if they are headed out and about (either bring them with you or crate them--We've had unexpectedly anxious pooches make their stress known = costly repairs). If we know that you are bringing a pooch, we will leave an additional sheet in the space. We'd ask that you cover the sofa if your dog happens to be a couch surfer to help us maintain the life of our furniture! As well, we ask guests to clean up after their furry friends and deposit baggies in the garbage can beneath the deck.
