If you have plans to entertain in our cabin you must discuss it with us in advance of your booking. Fantastic, authentic log cabin on 7 acres of wooded land with a private pond and a sandy beach. Charm throughout with beds for nine to ten people. The space AN AUTHENTIC LOG CABIN IN THE BERKSHIRES OF LITCHFIELD COUNTY CONNECTICUT. Our log cabin is on seven wooded acres with a lovely private, natural pond that's good for a dip. It also has a fire pit and sandy beach. Inside our cabin, a soaring beamed ceiling, skylights, and a stone fireplace enhance the rustic charm. (Indoor fireplace cannot be operated between May and September) The cabin is furnished with everything you need for your stay, including bed linens, towels, kitchen equipment, cooking staples and basic toiletries. The house is on two levels. A master bedroom with Queen sized bed and loft bedroom with three twin beds are on the second floor along with a convertible sofa on the large landing. This makes sleeping for six on the 2nd floor. On the first floor, a double bedroom and a library with a twin and trundle provide for 4 more people. Basement features pool table and air hockey. There is also a television set with basic cable and a DVD player in the living room. A large front porch overlooks the garden and closed in porch with 6-person hot tub looks out onto the path to the swimming hole. A meadow in the back of the house is the perfect place for kids to play. Beyond the meadow more woods to explore. Our pond is large, cool and refreshing with a leafy bottom you may want to bring water shoes. Watch for tadpoles and frogs. At night you will be serenaded by the songs of the barred owls who live in our woods. You might also see bears. The log cabin is close to skiing, the public town pond and recreation area, four state parks, Music Mountain and tubing on the Farmington River. This is the setting for a family vacation you will always remember. Guest access The entire house and 7 acre wooded grounds are available for our guests to enjoy. Keep in mind a few things. We do not allow smoking of any substance, legal or otherwise, anywhere on the property. Any evidence of smoking on the premises including in the woods or by the pond, or anywhere else, will result in a fine of $250. Unfortunately, experience has caused us to institute this policy. We recycle and expect our guests to do so as well. Bottles, cans, paper and plastics should be rinsed and placed in the recycle bin. This is a house in the country and there are bears, foxes and smaller critters who also call this property home. The bunk beds are full size, but adults may not be comfortable sleeping in them and the bed on the landing is intended to accommodate a 10th person in the home, but it is not private. Finally, while our beach and pond are available for a dip, it has a leafy bottom and it is not crystal clear. A public pond and beach with a lifeguard, changing area, toilets, parking, picnic tables and playground is one mile from the cabin and is open to our guests at no charge. Most people enjoy our beach and pond for watching the wildlife, ducks, frogs and herons, barbecuing and using the firepit at night. We do not provide charcoal for the grill or firewood for the pit or the indoor fireplace. You are welcome to gather wood on the property and firewood is also for sale at the Stop 'n Shop in downtown Winsted or at any hardware or home improvement store. The indoor fireplace is not available for use between May and September. Other things to note While we have high-speed wifi sufficient for most needs including downloading and streaming, internet phone, and conferencing. Interactive gaming may be possible, but can not be assured. Our cable has more than one hundred channels, but we do not guarantee that the channel you want will be available.
