Downstairs study transforms into a 3rd bedroom with queen sofa bed. Excellent wifi, open-plan kitchen with island, high-end appliances, modern bath with tub, washer/dryer and excellent amenities. Lovely views all day long of the Berkshire hills and historic Shaker valley from the wide front windows and front porch. The space On a gorgeous landmark hillside farm at the New York edge of the Berkshires, the farm cottage is the place for an authentic rural experience combined with modern comfort and great style. Your well-behaved, house-broken dog is welcome! The cottage is set into a four-barn property, with the main house set separately across the way. Roomy with generous amenities and beautiful views, the cottage offers everything you need for a wonderful stay in the country. The cottage master bedroom has a queen-size bed with a view of the garden and the hills. There are bedside tables with lamps, two ample closets, a chest of drawers, a daybed and a reading chair. It's a lovely, airy refuge. The other roomy bedroom offers twin beds with bedside tables and twin chests of drawers--a great spot for kids or guests. The study downstairs becomes a third bedroom with ease, with a table, sofa bed, and closet with hangers. The sofabed is queen-size, with a feather bed topper. The study is a private room with a door. It is right next to the bathroom, which makes it a good bedroom option for someone who wants to remain only on the first floor. Guests usually tell us that they have a great experience with remote work and videoconferencing here. There is very good cell phone coverage in this area, with the exception of T-Mobile/Consumer Cellular. The modern bathroom has a tub and a pedestal sink, as well as a washer/dryer. There are plenty of towels and a hair dryer, as well as a choice of quality shampoos, soaps and conditioners. The big kitchen offers plenty of of prep and storage space, with black cabinets and white quartz countertops. The broad kitchen island is equipped with three high stools, a sink with pull-down faucet, and a dishwasher. There is a large refrigerator as well as an electric stove, microwave, toaster, coffee grinder and a drip coffeemaker with thermal carafe. You'll find a French Press coffee maker as well. There is a full complement of high quality dishware, cutlery and cookware-- also fine coffees, tea and condiments for making a good meal, like oils, vinegars and spices. At the front of the kitchen, the dining table sits next to the full row of sunny windows, with four chairs and a built-in bench that can easily seat six or more. All windows in the cottage are equipped with blinds. On the other side of the cottage is the the living room, with sofas, chairs, and DirectTV. The living room has a heating stove but it's not in use. There is a big closet for coats and equipment. The two bedrooms are upstairs, while the study is downstairs. The bathroom is downstairs too. While the downstairs has the feel of easy-care wood flooring, upstairs is carpeted. On every bed you'll find high quality cotton bedding with high thread counts, washed in plant-based Seventh Generation detergent. Mattresses and pillows are encased with protective covers. Every bed has a duvet, with a choice of pillows and extra blankets. There are two private entrances into the cottage, although the one that is typically used the most opens from the porch into the kitchen, near the parking space for your car. There is keypad entry. The house has full baseboard heating in the wintertime. Every room can be adjusted to the warmth desired. Usually air conditioning isn't needed, but air conditioning units are available for the hottest days. The many windows in the cottage open to the Berkshire breezes. They offer a beautiful view of the grassy grounds and surrounding hills, as well as of the farm buildings just above the cottage. Once a dairy farm, the property now features four large barns that overlook the cottage and certified organic fields. On those fields, a local farmer grows certified organic grasses for his own cows, as well for sale to other farmers raising organic animals. A small herd of sheep might be grazing in fields near the cottage, as do a small group of cows that rotate grazing on and off the property. About 50% of the farm's electric power is clean- generated by the solar array in the pasture above the barns. The farm is on a quiet country road just right for walking, where the valley views change with the light of the day. Right at your porch are six raised flower beds, offering a kitchen garden, a tea garden and a cutting garden, with organic flowers, herbs and vegetables. Use them during your stay! Settle into the Adirondack chairs at the porch edge, looking down into the valley and around at the lovely hills and trees. Put some of the famous local corn on the grill and enjoy it at the dining table outdoors. Guest access Use of the cottage would be exclusively yours, with dedicated parking space at its side. A circular drive runs up and behind the cottage, continuing past the grounds around it and back down to the country road below. Four barns sit on the hillside above the cottage and to its side. Any farm equipment is kept inside the barns, as is hay that is stored at certain times of year. The farm is beautifully kept, clean and fresh. We ask that guests respect farm buildings, animals and operations by not touching them, although looking from a safe distance is OK. Children are welcome at the cottage but must always be supervised around the barns and animals. Note for young kids that the cottage porch sits about a foot off the ground but has no railings. In addition to the parking space for the cottage, there is a well-kept parking area in the barnyard near the cottage that can be used by your guests. This area is also used on occasion by farm vehicles. You may sometimes see the farmers up at the barns, briefly parking cars and equipment. The property caretaker will be around too on occasion. The work of the farm goes on in the fields well below the road to the south and in the fields to the north and east. Although it's not excessive, you will be able to see and sometimes hear the seasonal activities of farm life. Farmers stop by almost daily to check animals, etc., with heavier activity usually centering around seasonal collecting, wrapping and storing of hay bales, and their pickup for delivery to other farms. This is a wonderful opportunity to stay in a different world while still having a peaceful experience. Down the hill from the cottage is the distinguished Center Hall Colonial house of the property owners. Built in the early 1800's and recently expertly renovated, the main house is far enough away so that it's possible to operate very privately at the cottage. The are grassy expanses to the front and side of the cottage. Sheep and sometimes cows graze on the nearby fields. It's the best of farm life for you to experience. Other things to note Enjoy a dip in the lake after your day exploring the area! Your stay comes with a pass to local spring-fed Queechy Lake, which is known as one of the cleanest lakes in the state. There's a sandy beach, a lifeguard, picnic tables, a swimming lane and a floating dock. You'll find towels and beach chairs waiting for you at the Farm Cottage too.
