Hudson Ice House, 25 acre retreat w/ pond & views!
Stay in this gorgeous, former 1850's ice house, renovated to make a modern, light-filled retreat, less than 10 minutes to Hudson. Wander 25 acres & discover the pond, apple orchard, and woods. Downhill skiing 25 minutes away. Enjoy the roof deck & views of the Catskills, our pond, or the graceful willow, framed by the huge picture windows. The space This house, owned and designed by Bowerbird Architects, was featured on “Where We Call Home,” episode 12, on HBO, AppleTV, Amazon Prime and Discovery Plus. An ideal country retreat, with plenty of food, culture, and activities close by. And Hudson's Warren Street is only a six-minute drive. The house itself is airy and open and perfect for families and couples to gather, cook, and relax in. Outside, there's a patio (right off the kitchen) and a fire pit, so in nice weather, you'll likely want to grill & dine al fresco. There's even an outdoor shower on the roof to enjoy during warm months (Mid-May thru Mid-October). The house is ideal for two couples with kids, so two to three couples without kids. Two of the sleeping areas (lofts) do not have doors separating them from below (but you can not see up into them even without doors). Though it’s listed for 8 guests, the house is not well suited to more than 6 adult guests. If two couples are sharing their stay, the primary suite has a kind sized bed, is in its own house with a door separating it from all the living spaces below the big loft. Then the big loft is in a separate house, with a queen sized bed. And in the basement there are three beds and an extra mattress. Guest access The whole house. Other things to note This house is in the country. It sits on 25 acres and you will be sharing it with all the wildlife that also lives here. Please drive with caution down our driveway as you may encounter a family of deer or opossums. Know that you may wake to hearing birds in the morning or on occasion fall asleep to the sound of coyote howls. We've also seen a blue heron (he lived on the pond all last summer), bald eagle, turkey vultures, hawks, myriad other birds, foxes, turtles, frogs, and rabbits. There are also insects and unfortunately, lady bugs, stink bugs, and flies occasionally make their way inside the house. We make every effort to keep them out, but they like to hang out near the doors and sneak in when you open them. Please try to keep doors closed when you aren't using them to minimize their entry! The barn on the property is cute but not in great shape. We plan to someday renovate it, but for now, use caution if exploring the area around it. Also, be very cautious near the pond and do not walk on the ice.
