Our beautiful property is situated at the base of Kasigau Mountain (Just south of the Taita hills in Taita-Taveta County). It is the ideal basecamp to hike on Mt Kasigau or to explore Tsavo East & West & Lake Jipe. We accommodate all types of visitors from families, school children, university, and research students, hiking & cycling enthusiasts, leadership & corporate team building. The space Kasigau Basecamp is situated directly south of the Taita hills in Taita-Taveta County. Mt Kasigau rises 5,200ft out of the famous Tsavo ‘savannah’ where Elephants roam wild and free. This savannah is mostly dry and hot, but if you have the inclination to hike up Mt Kasigau you will experience a very different climate of cloud forest which is dripping with moisture and is home to many different bird, plant and tree species (some of which are endemic to this mountain). To hike under the shadow of HUGE trees and eventually come out of the canopy to have distant views to Kilimanjaro and Tanzania is well worth the 2-3 hour ascent. Guest access The individual cottages are well placed for privacy and all offer stunning views over the 16 acres of private secure land to the vast savanna of Tsavo National Park. The only other activity within this property is a nursery field of aloe vera which is being nurtured for distribution and commercial farming opportunities to the neighbouring community. Other things to note Ideal location for hiking and climbing and participating in local community activities in a very rural setting. Our neighbours are small scale farmers who struggle to make a living in this harsh landscape. Water is very scarce and women (when they are not walking for miles collecting water) weave beautiful baskets which we help them to market locally and overseas. Any visitor will be truelly humbled to interact with these delightful neighbours in a remote Kenyan landscape.
