Enjoy the sounds of the river, birds, rustling leaves & little else when you stay in this unique primitive site on the Piscataquis River. Maine dark skies are in their glory to view spectacular night sky scenery. Extremely infrequent traffic & comfortably spaced neighbors, including pure Maine forest to an entire side of the road for miles, makes for a quiet, private site while still having the benefit of ample cell signal, neighbors within walking distance & town amenities in either direction. Located directly on the side of the majestic Piscataquis River, and just outside of Howland & Medford Maine with their convenient amenities and friendly local atmospheres. Enjoy the pure sounds of nature from the river running to the wind rustling the trees when you stay on this unique site surrounded by forest to yourself, no immediate neighbors, and only very sparse vehicular traffic. An ideal spot for fly-fishing, fishing in general, kayaking, canoeing, and ATV trail riding for sure. A spacious private site directly on the Piscataquis River with ample surrounding forest to yourself to enjoy; fish the river, and forage for firewood. Across the road is acres upon acres of pure forest. This primitive space is for people who like to be left to their own and you should bring with you everything you will need--should there be any reason or need to reach me of course please reach out via AirBnB and I will respond in a reasonable time. If there's an emergency please contact emergency services--dial 911. Rural Maine surrounded by abundant natural forestry with the river on one entire side and the forest on the other--the road and the area are substantially exceptionally quiet with only the occasional traffic from passing vehicles and ATVs; it's a friendly area. In either directions are the small towns of Milo and then Medford and Howland, with the roads leading in from either direction having a few scattered homes and camps. The roads in this area are all ATV friendly and so you are more than welcome and encouraged to bring your ATV, side by side, etc. You will need a form of transportation to get around since it's a rural area and everything is spaced apart--this can be a vehicle, motorcycle, RV, or bicycle. The area is great for walking, running/jogging, cycling for excercise--personally we recommend traveling in the direction of Medford since the roads are so great that way. Quiet 98.9% of the time. Just outside of town which feels reassuring and provides the access to surprisingly excellent cell signal (with Verizon & T Mobile that we're personally aware) despite how rural and mostly undeveloped it still is, and within ~15 minutes of two local convenient stores—both of which have kitchens and one has a small meat cooler as well. However, there’s a great small local grocery store (Tradewinds/Hannaford) in Milo just ~20 minutes away that we personally highly recommend; our strong ‘local guide’ recommendation to guests would be to navigate first directly to the Tradewinds grocery store in Milo to reach it via the turnpike, then travel to the site via the road from Milo and Medford direction, which are far better roads (avoiding a small bad section from Howland/Maxfield) and enjoy the beautiful scenic drive. It's very lush green all around with the wonderful river sounds. A perfect stopover on your way to or from Baxter State Park/Mt. Katahdin. If you're wanting a spot for a small- to mid-size RV this is ideal. You can dump and fill water for just $5--or for free with fill-up--at Dysart's Restaurant & Truck Stop on 530 Coldbrook Rd, Hermon, ME 04401. They're likely on the way there and on the way back home for the majority of travelers, and depending on which other direction you may from or how long you're staying, it's only roughly a ~40 minute travel there from the site, and with plenty of access to stores and food along the way and there. Their RV dump and water fill station is available 24 hours and it's across the street from the main gas station/restaurant at the other Dysart building--follow the signs that the station is now around on the back right side of the building.
