Our farmstay has been described as as a "European getaway" without the jet lag or time commitment. Quixote Cottage is a lovely, small private cottage overlooking our grove on our very remote 145 acre family ranch abutting Palomar Mountain overlooking Pauma Valley. At 1800 feet above sea level, we enjoy temperate seasons. We share our family farm for agri-tourism as a way to offset water costs for running a farm. It’s our hope that you will feel revived and replenished during your time here The space The cottage has an expansive wrap around deck with outdoor seating, fire table, barbecue and dining for six under a stunning China Berry tree. Our ranch is in a very remote agricultural community in an unincorporated area of San Diego near Julian. The cottage is located at the end of a short dirt road in a peaceful and private spot within our orchard. It is a detached 900 sq foot, 2 bedroom guest house created for short term stays, there are no closets or dressers however, there is under bed storage and behind the door pegs for a few hanging things in both rooms. The Cottage rests in the middle of our property-between two of our family homes-with quite a lot of space between-you will have plenty of privacy. However, no parties are permitted at any time, and our family does walk around the orchard regularly with our friendly dogs. Since this is a working farm, you may see our workers out and about caring for the orchard, and you may occasionally hear farm, equipment, tractors, etc. We also have a converted barn here on the property, available to rent, just a short walk ftom the cottage Guest access Enjoy the Ranch! Its lovely to walk in our gently sloping orchard. A map of the property is provided in the cottage. You will have access to the citrus orchard surrounding the cottage, you can visit our three rescue horses. We recommend closed-toed shoes and common sense and alertness for wild animals or reptile activity. The pool can be reserved between 10-4 for a maximum of 3 hours a day during summer months. June-Sept-please note the pool may be used simultaneously by other guests staying at the farm. Ask about our add-on meal options and experiences! Other things to note Check in is at 3 pm. Checkout is 10 am. No photoshoots, professional or otherwise. Pets are allowed for $65 fee with the understanding that we are up against the Palomar mountain nature preserve where there are many predatory and wild animals PLEASE read the Guidebook before coming to the cottage. In addition to describing several fun local attractions, the Guidebook has a few pertinent details that everyone MUST know before coming here. Agritourism was created as a means for the farming industry to offset high costs of running a farm, and to showcase a different way of life. This ranch is our livelihood and we are trying to care for our parents and our family here. While we love to serve our guests well, please understand that we are not a five-star resort. Five stars on Airbnb is completely different from five stars in a hotel. The ranch is remote . There is nothing to do here, and that’s the point. The cottage is ideal for people that want to get away from it all and relax. Some people have booked the cottage as a base for sightseeing in San Diego-we don’t recommend this. Two-lane Highways can mean traffic slow down no matter what time of day-creating a frustrating long commute. Since this is an organic farm in the country, you may see the occasional ant or bug, or fly. Please understand that “organic farm” It’s not just a trendy catchphrase to attract vistors. It means we endeavor to be as eco friendly and chemical free as possible. Small dinner parties are acceptable as long as you ask in advance -parties with more than 6 people are strictly prohibited. NO glitter or party decor, please! We are a welcoming ranch.
