Games, CDs, records, books, videos and DVDs to watch on chilly days. Solid Wi-Fi. The chalet is an inspiring place for writers and artists, and a perfect pad for landing after a day of hiking, kayaking, playing on the beaches, birdwatching, bike riding, “boodling,” and exploring. You WILL need transportation. Bikes or auto. Our chalet is in the neighborhood nearest town, about two miles away. It is in a beautiful, forested area, secluded and private, but not far away from "civilization" as we know it. ; ) If you plan to bring your car, be sure to book a spot on the ferry WELL in advance (months!) Holiday weekend slots book up months ahead. Beaver Island is an exciting travel adventure, especially when the weather rolls on in. Weather may cause plane or ferry delays or cancellations, so be prepared for this reality of Up North island living. I highly recommend Fresh Air Aviation. Reasonable rates and friendly, professional service, well-maintained planes and nice airports. We installed new ceiling fans upstairs to make summer sleeping more comfy as it does get warm. In colder weather, you will find kindling everywhere outside and firewood bundles can be purchased at the hardware store in town. The heat is electric, and the thermostats need BARELY to be turned on for it to warm the house. Heat bills are unbelievable. $800 a month if you're not careful. Please bear this in mind if you are here in colder weather. It will be a trip you'll never forget, and this special retreat home will make you feel welcome, comfortable, refreshed and inspired.
