Michael is retired and I am a partially retired RN of 33 years. Michael has owned this 1931 Craftsman style home since the late 1970s. We are lifelong Abilenians and live within a few minutes drive. Mike and I take great care to make your stay as welcoming and comfortable as possible. The home isn’t fussy so relax and make yourselves at home! Ask about our new disability adaptive aides! Very close proximity to Hardin-Simmons University, Hendrick Medical Center, multiple medical physicians offices and free standing surgical centers, Hendrick Hospice facility, Abilene Christian University, Taylor County Expo, West Texas Fair and Rodeo, Abilene Zoo, and Nelson Park, The Grace Museum, Children’s Museum, Children’s Center For Illustrated Literature and their annual festival, Abilene Convention Center, Visitor’s Center, Frontier Texas!, Dodge Jones youth sports complex, downtown shopping and dining, Saturday morning farmer’s market at Frontier Texas! Historic Paramount Theatre, second Thursday ArtWalk downtown and annual Car Walk. This large craftsman style 1931 home has been in our family since the 1970s. It’s a warm, inviting family home. Sleeps up to 12. Not fussy or untouchable, with lots of antiques and fun vintage decor. Our guests say it “feels like home”. Extra comfortable beds with lots of vintage quilts. Comfortable living area with a queen sofa bed. We frequently change the decor and accessories depending on the season including fully decorating the house at Christmas. Upstairs is quiet, secluded and private with a full bed, sitting area with antique furniture and a play area. Lots of books, toys and vintage games. A luxury king air mattress can be set up in the upstairs for additional guests. Special attention for our tiny guests include two pack and play cribs with bedding, high chair and a lightweight stroller available. High speed internet. Smart TV in the living room. Firestick streaming and Local channels in two bedrooms. Lots of great books for readers. Multiple areas can be designated work space. Very large eat in kitchen with lots of dishes, silverware, drink ware, small appliances, cookware. Small appliances. Microwave. Dishwasher. Full size washer and dryer. Formal dining room. Bar ware and wine glasses. Christmas dishes for the holidays! Huge pecan and oak trees provide a cool shady yard most of the day. Plenty of outdoor lighting. Comfortable porch deck with a porch swing. Picnic table. Outdoor table and chairs. Propane bbq pit available as well as utensils. Rock outdoor fireplace/fire pit for roasting marshmallows, hot dogs on a chilly night. It’s quite old and an original feature remaining of the rock fence. Many car shows in the area, Spring to Fall. The home is a nice weekend stay with a private driveway to park your entry. Guest access Entire home Other things to note This is an old house with potential issues such as creaking wood flooring, sticky wood door facings caused by settling; not a lot of electrical outlets. The fireplace currently does not provide heat. We temporarily replaced the gas insert with an electric that looks the same but doesn’t provide heat. It’s just for appearance of a fire. Regular furnace provides plenty of heat in the living room. It’s not central heat and air. Heaters are thermostat controlled furnaces. Window units and radiant or cool touch space heaters. More than enough to be comfortable and adjust room temperature individually. One king air mattresses will be set up upstairs for the larger groups. It’s very deep (see pictures listed) with built in pump. You must walk through the middle (full size bed) bedroom to get to the front (twin size beds) bedroom. The twin bedroom does not have an air conditioner but the adjacent bedroom air conditioner cools it and the furnace heats it. There are no locks on the interior doors (bedrooms, bathroom). The house settles and some of the interior doors don’t latch tightly or may be sticky. Some of the furniture pieces are antique and particularly some chairs may not accommodate a heavy person. The house is not handicap/wheelchair accessible. There are stairs at both entrances. Please ask questions about accessibility in advance so we can determine if the home can accommodate a guest with disabilities.
