Glamping in a Vintage Airstream *Off-Grid*
Have you ever been driving down the highway and passed a vintage travel trailer and wished you had the opportunity to enjoy these times of the past? This is the perfect opportunity! This is an iconic Argosy travel trailer from 1972 and is remotely located and immersed in nature with wonderful views and great sunrise experiences. The trailer is off-grid but does have solar power for lighting and phone charging. It has a very adequate heating system and a seasonal outdoor shower. Enjoy the sunrise from the deck or relax by the fire pit in the evening by this vintage Airstream trailer! The entire trailer is covered and there is a nice deck on the front from which you can enjoy miles of views. This trailer will comfortably sleep three and has a full kitchen inside. We provide drinking water in glass and blue plastic containers that can be refilled at the pump by the Farm Store. There is also an indoor sink for washing dishes. There is an outdoor shower located just behind the trailer. We also maintain a clean out house behind the trailer for your use and there is a shower house available for all our guests to use near the Farm Store with hot water. Pets are welcome! There is a pet fee so please let us know if you plan to bring your furry friends! There is a firepit of course and a grill for outdoor cooking. The firepit is near the front deck of the trailer and we provide enough firewood for your first fire! Guests are welcome to look for more firewood in the woods if you need additional firewood (please only use wood that is already on the ground). We provide a cooler for you to put food in as there is no refrigerator in the trailer. There is a refrigerator on the deck of the Shower House by the Farm Store that our guests in our off grid listings are welcome to store their food in as well. There is a usb charging port above the sink. If you need outlets for computers etc, there are outlets at the shower house by the Farm Store. There is solar lighting at the trailer but it is a good idea to also bring flashlights with you! This trailer does not have air conditioning so please keep that in mind for your stay. Altamont Farm is a 500 acre historic working farm. Surrounded by beautiful mountain and river views, this farm is home to a variety of animals including Highland cows, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, and horses! You are welcome to explore the farm (including more than 10 miles of trails and great fishing on the James River) and relax in this peaceful corner of nature. We have a variety of animals on the farm and each has a unique diet. We ask guests to please not feed any of the animals without first checking with us as improper feeding (too much, wrong type, etc) can lead to health problems for the animals. Thank you! Find us on IG (@altamontfarm) and FB (Altamont Farms) to see pictures and updates from the farm! Produce, eggs, and meat are available for purchase at the farm store (selection depends on seasonal availability) and you can also purchase meals and order special meals/desserts from the farm store! If you would like more information about the farm store, please reach out to us! The farm staff are on the farm most days and feel free to ask one of us or reach out on Airbnb with any questions you have. We also provide the cell number of our Property Manager that you can call/text with your questions. Essentials: - The closest grocery stores are Kroger and Walmart in Appomattox. It is about 10-13 minutes to town (Appomattox). Although you will probably find yourself staying and enjoying the variety of sights and activities on the farm, there are a few interesting local sights that you might enjoy: - Appomattox Court House National Park is located about 20 minutes away with several historic buildings, a gift shop, and eight different hiking trails (ranging from .9 to 4.8 miles). - American Civil War Museum has an extensive collection of artifacts (flags, swords, uniforms, etc), manuscripts, and photographs. This museum tells the story of the civil war from its beginning through to its effects on our country today. - James River State Park is around 25 minutes from the farm and is over 1500 acres with more than 15 miles of hiking/biking/horseback riding trails. The park has three miles of river frontage with beautiful views and picnic areas. - Holliday Lake State Park is about 35 minutes away and is over 250 acres filled with hiking trails, lake activities, playgrounds, picnic shelters, a snack bar, and a gift shop. - Baine's Books & Coffee in Appomattox offers coffee, baked goods, vinyl records, books, and cozy chairs to read and relax in. The address given is actually the neighbor's mailbox (the farm address does not GPS correctly). The entrance to the farm is 30 yards to the left of this neighbors mailbox. You will see a sign with the farm name Altamont - that gravel road is the entrance to the farm. The Airstream trailer is located on the side of the hill accessed by a gravel road. When turning into the drive way, you will follow the road all the way until you reach a crossroads. Continue straight until you will pass some open sheds to your left. Keep going straight up the hill until you reach a fork in the road with a wooden sign. At the fork, take the road on the right and enjoy the scenery as you make your way up to the trailer. • This trailer is off-grid. Solar power and (seasonal) running water inside. Enjoy the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the beautiful Virginia woods! The Farm is also an Airbnb Experience for Horseback riding (experience riders) and lessons (inexperienced). We have 5 trail horses and come by to see them or reach out if interested in scheduling time with them and our trainer. • We advise guests to prepare for an off-grid Airstream trailer camping experience and bring essentials such as flashlights, bug spray, etc. • Also, the railing that surrounds the porch is not child-proofed and has wide gaps between the posts. The porch is between 1-4 feet off the ground (depending on where you're standing) and we strongly recommend that young children be supervised when on the porch. • Please note there is no hot water at this listing (just water for cleaning dishes) - a shower and sink with hot water are available in the shower house on the farm which is a very short drive or 10 to 15 minute walk.
