Step into island life, relax into the land on a 100 acre working farm. This sunny home invites you to read in the window seat, grill on the patio, cozy up to the woodstove or get creative in the well-stocked kitchen. Explore the pastures, marsh, and ponds. Use the yoga studio. Fire up the sauna. Charge your EV. Nestled next to the pond and removed from the activity of barn and market garden the Field House invites you to enjoy your own retreat or engage with the farm. The space You are entering a working farm and community when you rent the Field House. We all share the land with our cattle, chickens, dogs, a multitude of swallows in summer, eagles, owls, and countless other critters. The house itself is light filled and efficient. We have invested in a weather proofing retrofit and mini-split heat pump so that the guest house reflects our values of climate change mitigation. There is also an ev charger provided. We also value good food and love to cook. We set up the kitchen so it is ready for meals to be made with an induction range, cast iron pans, baking supplies and all the basic ingredients to get you going. We want you to enjoy! Guest access The Field House has its own private yard and south facing patio. To the east is the swimming pond, sauna and Down Dog Yoga Studio. Just north up the drive is the big barn, our house, the market garden, hoophouse, and orchard. To the south hidden in the trees is the compost facility and during the winter, the cattle. To the west there is a big fir with an eagle's nest, pasture and marshes. You are welcome to wander and roam, to swim in the pond, use the sauna, take a class in the yoga studio or use for your own practice between classes, stroll the gardens, pick up some beef from self service farm stand and pick fruit in season. We love it when people engage with the land. Other things to note We love children! Please know that this is a working farm and supervise your kids appropriately. There is a pond, electric fences, trucks and tractors driving, and livestock. Children should be with an adult when exploring beyond the Field House yard. There is an assortment of games and toys in the baskets under the window seat. And fields, woods and gardens to explore, ponds to swim in and animals watch. We also love dogs and are now welcoming them to the Field House. They must be on-leash when outside due to farm animals and free roaming chickens. Please keep them off the furniture. The swimming pond is quite nice in the summer months. People do occasionally get swimmers itch (from a worm that has a crazy lifecycle involving ducks, snails and a free swimming larval stage). We are not a host but can have a reaction to it hence the itch. Swim off the dock and stay away from the pond edges, rinse off in the shower (located in sauna by the dock) and towel dry. There is a wood fired sauna. We do charge a $25 lighting fee. Please arrange. It is right next to the pond so you can do the cold water plunge (exciting in winter!). Please note that we have been on the island long enough to keep up the Lopez culture of skinny dipping. When we sauna and cold plunge or swim in the summer we often go au natural. All year we have a regular sauna Sunday mornings between 7:30-9:30. The pond is screened by some bushes from the Field House. The Down Dog Yoga studio is located on Midnight's Farm as well. Check the calendar on our website for class availability. You are welcome to use it when there are not classes for personal practice. This is a working farm so there may be occasional machine noise (haying, tractor, compost operation) and some truck/equipment traffic on the farm road near the house. We rotationally graze the cattle during the spring, summer and fall and they move around the farm so may not be visible from the Field House. In the winter they are off pasture at the overwinter area and you are welcome to walk up and visit them.
