Located in the village of Wynndel, 10 kms north of the Town of Creston and 25 km south of the beaches of Kootenay Lake, the cherry trees are just steps away from your doorstep and are ripe for pickin' from the last week of July to the end of August. The guest house is perfect for all travelers. You will enjoy the space, tranquility and privacy of the country. This guest house sleeps 4 comfortably but can sleep more if required. Talk to owners. THINGS TO DO IN THE KOOTENAYS Kootenay Lake Located between the Selkirk and Purcell mountain ranges, Kootenay lake is the largest natural lake in British Columbia. It is approximately 100 km long and 3 to 5 km wide and offers a variety of activities including boating, kayaking or canoeing, fishing, or relaxing on one of it’s beaches. Kayaking or Canoeing The Creston Valley has prime flat water kayaking or canoeing waterways. There are over 17,000 acres of wetlands to paddle on, as well as the Kootenay River which snakes through the Creston Valley to Kootenay Lake. There are many launching sites within an easy drive of the town of Creston. Fishing The Creston Valley provides an abundance of world class fishing locations suitable for the beginner or avid angler. Kootenay Lake, a 15 minute drive North of Wynndel, teems with 30 lb Bull Trout (Dolly Varden) and Gerrard Rainbow Trout, as well as smaller sport fish such as Kokanee Salmon (a land-locked species of salmon). Duck Lake, located between Wynndel and Kootenay Lake, is stocked with Large Mouth Bass and Yellow Perch. Finally, the Creston Valley offers a multitude of creeks and rivers containing Rainbow Trout, Rock Mountain Whitefish, Burbot, Cutthroat Trout and Kokanee. Opportunities abound for fishing from shore or by boat, as well as fly-fishing and ice fishing on Duck Lake in the winter months. Hiking Don’t forget your hiking boots! The Creston Valley offers a number of trails to explore on foot, including hikes to secluded waterfalls and lookout vistas. Biking Country roads and terrain make for an abundance of biking routes. Skiing In the winter months Creston is surrounded by ski hills, including five fantastic ski resorts within a 2 hour drive: Red Mountain (located in Rossland), Whitewater (located in Nelson), Switzer Mountain (located in Sandpoint Idaho, USA), Kimberely (located in Kimberley) and Fernie (located in Fernie). This central location makes the Creston Valley an ideal base from which to explore the world class ski resorts of the Rockie Mountains. Hotsprings Several natural hotsprings are located within a 2 hour radius, including the caves of Ainsworth Hot Springs. Columbia Brewery Tours Home of the world famous Kokanee beer, and one of the largest brewing companies in Canada. During the summer season the Columbia Brewery offers daily tours of the brewery. Wine Tours Skimmerhorn Winery and Vineyard Creston Valley’s own winery and vineyard specializing in cool climate wines. Tastings, sales and schedules tours are offered. Wynnwood Cellars Estate Winery 5566 Highway 3A, Wynndel, BC WynnwoodCellars@ Wynnwood Cellars vision is to create distinctive wines that reflect the terroir of this unique site above Duck Lake in the Creston Valley. This winery is brand new for the Kootenay Rockies. Baillie-Grohman Estate Winery Golf Both beginner and experienced golfers can take a swing at the Creston Golf Club, an 18-hole, par-72 course with views of the Creston Valley, Kootenay River, Purcell and Selkirk Mountains. You may find yourself golfing under the perusal of osprey, blue heron, deer and the occasional elk. There are 17 other golf courses all within a 2 hour radius of Creston. Creston and District Historical Museum The “Stone House” Museum grounds will take you back in time to Pioneer life in the Creston Valley. A Trapper’s Cabin, a turn of the century Schoolhouse, an Historic Steam Locomotive, and an early Store and Doctor’s office are all part of the tour. Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area The Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area is the first and largest wildlife management area in British Columbia. It spans an area of 17,000 acres and gives you and opportunity to see an array of wild life including elk, moose, deer, coyotes, muskrat, beaver and river otters, as well as diverse bird species for which the area is known. Hiking, cycling, canoeing, picnicking, wildlife viewing, hunting and fishing, as well as an Interpretive Centre are all available. Art Gallery Tours The Creston Valley has a diverse artist community, with a number of galleries and studios open to the public. An Art Walk brochure is available with information on various locations to visit. Creston Valley Farmers’ Market ( every Saturday morning, Summer months) Offering local produce, arts, crafts and entertainment. Events The Creston Valley offers a number of events to keep you occupied. Valentine’s Bonspiel, Butterfly Bonspiel, Home and Garden Show, Blossom Festival, Yaquan Nuki Pow Wow, Collector Car Show, along with many music festivals, farmers markets, fairs and theatrical performances.
