Unplug from life in a semi-oceanfront, vintage 1951 one-bedroom cottage that's located only 150ft from the beach access. Just bring your bathing suit, the cottage has everything you could need for a relaxing vacation. Enjoy a fenced in backyard for the pets with a hot tub, picnic table and gas grill. Don't pack bulky beach stuff! A cart, two chairs and umbrella are there for your use! The space To make your vacation as relaxing as possible the following household items are included. Linens, bath and beach towels (full sized washer and dryer are in the cottage), paper towels, toilet paper, trash bags, napkins, dish soap, dishwasher detergent, laundry supplies, plastic wrap, aluminum foil, zip lock storage bags, whole bean coffee with a grinder and filters, a spice rack, cooking oil and sugar are there for convenience. The bathroom has shampoo, conditioner, body soap, 1st aid kit, and a few little extras in case you forget to pack the small things. I have lived on the Outer Banks for 20 years and am very passionate about the natural beauty of the area. I adore helping my guests find a great restaurant, cool activity or just a peaceful spot to watch an amazing sunset over the water. Let me guide you in the right direction of the best local sightseeing tours, fishing trips, wild mustang excursions, sailing cruises or whatever your hearts desire on your OBX bucket list. Due to traveling around the world my goal is to help you fall in love with the Outer Banks as much as I have and to make your vacation as relaxing and enjoyable as possible! Hello fellow travelers and beach lovers! During the real estate boom I saved this cozy, decrepit 1951 cottage by the sea from being bulldozed by home builders that wanted to add another huge rental machine to the Outer Banks. Everyone thought I was crazy and some days I thought the same! Gidget's Dream had been neglected for decades so I started the long process of reviving it to it's former self. I replaced the roof, the plumbing, windows and the electrical system. I tore out walls and found 2 time capsules from the 1960's! I updated the kitchen, added a washer/dryer and refinished most of the 70 year old wood floors, just to name a few of the projects accomplished! It has been a labor of love, a serious learning experience in "This Old House" improvements and all in all, a beautiful/crazy adventure creating wonderful place for my guests to make memories. To add to the charm of this property there is an original 1950's detached Dory boat building that has been converted into a tiny house for me! The restoration of "Kahuna's Shack" exterior juniper lap siding began in the spring and is a laborious effort of scraping 70 years of more than 4 coats of peeling paint. While the effort continues, the process will take forever to finish so an apology in advance for the weathered look of the building. Restoration on the detached tiny home will continue in the fall as not to be intrusive while you are here. Guest access The rental includes exclusive use of the private residence, fenced in backyard and hot tub. I have a tiny house and separate fenced in yard located on the property but I'm around only in passing due to work and helping my elderly parents in Virginia. Most guests comment they have no idea I'm even here.
