The unfortunate vehicle "Babs," whose driver was killed in one of numerous speed record attempts, was buried for years in the sands before being unearthed, refurbished, and put on display in the local museum. The legendary Amy Johnson used these same perfectly flat dunes for one of her many record-breaking takeoffs. These historic shores are ideal for beach activities including sunbathing, swimming, and kite flying any time of year. The land speed record was broken on Pendine's beach, and the town now boasts a brand new museum dedicated to the topic, appropriately named the Land of Speeds MUseum, which can be found on Pendine Promenade.
