High Desert Cabin w/ Wood-fired Tub & Mini Donkeys
The Cabin at Painted Canyon Homestead This serene cabin is situated at the mouth of a canyon overlooking Morongo Valley, where the high desert meets the San Gorgonio & San Jacinto Mountains. As the guest house on our property of 5 acres, the cabin is privately located bordering vast public lands. Wander the property, hike the canyon trail, or take in the changing light from the wood-fired hot tub (or use it with fresh cold water!). Perfectly suited for two with plenty of extra space to explore. The space Outside The cabin exterior is a place for relaxation amidst the unspoiled desert wild. Surrounded by natural creosote, yuccas, and cholla cacti, the cabin area is cleared just enough to create a space to lounge while gazing out at the varied landscape. At sunrise, pink light warms the mountain peaks to the west, and at sunset, golden hour light floods the vast high desert wilderness preserve to the east. The cedar-lined outdoor tub is perfect for a cool soak during the day, or warmed with a wood fire at night to enjoy while stargazing by the fire pit. And for a mouthwatering grilling experience, you’ll find a Big Green Egg MiniMax kamado-style charcoal grill with all the tools you’ll need. Wildlife is at home in the area, so don't be surprised to see and hear coyotes, hummingbirds, jackrabbits, or even the rare desert tortoise. When curiosity strikes, head out on the hiking trail into the canyon for sweeping views, or down to the base of the homestead where you’ll be greeted by our trio of sweet miniature donkeys and flocks of rainbow egg laying chickens! Cabin Amenities The single room cabin is small in size, but outfitted for indulgence. In the main room you'll find a cozy seating area and queen-sized bed with Avocado green mattress, woven leather headboard, and linen sheets. Stools and a floating live-edge wood shelf provide a window-lit area for working from your laptop or sipping your morning coffee. The kitchenette is stocked with a mini-fridge, microwave, toaster, Joshua Tree coffee, electric kettle, and Chemex pour-over set. We also provide wine glasses, a wine opener, a cocktail shaker, and a full set of dinnerware. The bathroom with shower has plenty of luxury products for your enjoyment. The cabin boasts high speed wifi for remote work, a portable Sonos Move bluetooth speaker, and wireless charging pads. We're proud to say pets are also more than welcome in the space. Location The cabin is conveniently located equidistant from the west entrance of Joshua Tree National Park (25 mins.) and Palm Springs (30 mins.). Historic Pioneertown and its famous music venue and bbq joint Pappy & Harriets is just 15 minutes away. Easy hiking amongst the mesquite trees is just 10 minutes away at the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve. We have many more recommendations in the area to share! Guest access The cabin and its outdoor area (including the wood-fired tub) are yours and only yours during your stay. We encourage you to enjoy wandering the entire property at your leisure, especially the miniature donkey pasture and chicken coops at the base of the hill! We are excited to now live full time at the main house at the property and always love chatting with guests, so if you see us working or relaxing outside don’t hesitate to say hello! The property is not far from highway 62, but access is via about a mile on a sandy dirt road. Good tires or high clearance are recommended, but not necessary. Other things to note This is our first time hosting, and we want nothing more than for you to have the type of experience we've always wanted when traveling. Write us with any special requests, we'd love to help you have the best time possible in the high desert! A note to prospective guests: The cabin is located in a wilderness area, and wildlife is abundant. We adore this and feel it’s what makes the area so special, but respect that not everyone may feel the same way. We’d encourage guests who would be concerned about an encounter with wildlife or insects to reconsider booking. Nature in the desert is very resilient, so we can’t guarantee wildlife or insects will not make their way inside the cabin seeking shade or water during your stay. In addition, please note that there may be fine art and surrealism painting books in the cabin that contain paintings depicting nudity. Registration number CESTRP-2022-01146
