The space This third-floor aerie perched high above this picturesque waterfront town lets you live like a downtown local for a few days! Within walking distance are wine bars, restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, book stores, art galleries, museums and more. Ernie is a studio apartment that combines coastal coziness with stunning lighthouse and water panoramas to give you an unforgettably beautiful Manteo escape. Whether your ideal getaway includes exploring Roanoke Island by foot, bike or paddle; people watching from one of three private balconies or just curling up with a good book (Hemingway, anyone?) The Ernie is the perfect berth. Decorated in a vintage beach style reminiscent of the Keys, this 900 square foot apartment has recently enjoyed a head-to-toe makeover including new carpet, paint, blinds and curtains and features original artwork carefully chosen to complete the Ernie experience. Deluxe amenities include a tiled bath with glass enclosed shower, Jacuzzi, and plush towels; a large sleeping area with a new mattress, 800 count sheets, ceiling fan, stained glass fixture, plenty of pillows and blankets and a reading alcove with two Lane chairs set against a bank of windows giving yet another perspective of Town. The front balcony looks out over Shallowbag Bay and the Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse while the back balcony is a wonderful place to perch and watch the comings and goings of this Downtown community. Both spots provide seating. Mid balcony is set up for drying towels and suits after a day of paddling the nearby waters or exploring our beautiful beaches - two beach chairs and beach towels are also provided for Ernie’s guests. Pick a book from Ernie’s large, carefully curated library of maritime reads, classics and the latest beach books and settle into the comfy leather reading chair in the living room; or enjoy a game of cards at the round glass dining table. A dry bar provides everything you need (except the liquor of course) for sunset cocktails- ice bucket, a variety of glasses, and more. A small window-front desk offers a space for writing letters or, if you must, a little remote work. High speed WiFi and a 43” smart TV round out the amenities. In the galley kitchen you’ll find a tea kettle, French press and drip coffeemaker; toaster; full size appliances including stove, refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher. Stainless steel pots and pans and a fully equipped selection of dishes will make cooking easy whether you’re just putting together a light bite to enjoy on the back deck or a romantic dinner for two. You will also find a full-size washer and dryer just inside the entry to Ernie. Guest access The Ernie is located on the third floor of a three-story building (the view is worth every step) and is equipped for two guests; for additional guests, be sure to look at The Vinnie, the apartment just downstairs which also sleeps 2. Either is an ideal location for music lovers in town for a concert, guests attending a wedding or visitors looking to extend their Outer Banks vacation or just that last minute weekend getaway any time of year. Upon check-in, we will send you a 4-digit entry code that will unlock the touch screen keypad. Open public parking is available for guests of Ernie in the lot adjacent to the building or we have a designated space in a private parking lot right across Sir Walter Raleigh Street beside Ortegaz Restaurant. Other things to note Ernie is on the third floor of this building but the 49 steps to get there are well worth the views and location. We have designed and outfitted the apartment for two and only two adults. We cannot make accommodations for extra guests or children as it is not planned for the younger set nor is it child-proofed. We love our pets, but we cannot allow them in the unit. These decisions were not made lightly so please understand they are part of the rules and we do not sway from them.
