Historic Amish homestead Barn loft apartment
The Nicholas Stoltzfus Homestead is the oldest restored Amish property in Berks County, bought by Immigrant Nicholas Stoltzfus (ancestor of all Stoltzfus descendants in America) in 1771. You will be staying in a peaceful and cozy barn loft apartment with a private entrance beside the stone house. You can enjoy the flower gardens and birds, tour the house, take a bike ride or picnic on the lawn. Adjacent to the property is the Union Canal Towpath on the Tulpehocken Creek. The space The newly finished apartment is furnished with beautiful antiques and items handcrafted by Amish artisans. There is central heat and air for your comfort and the space includes a full kitchen complete with everything you might need to cook, bake, or store food during your stay. You will find a basket of treats upon your arrival, including a small pack of freshly roasted coffee beans (roasted on premises by your hosts) for the best coffee ever. The kitchen/living area includes a cozy dining nook and a space with comfortable lounge chairs. The bedroom has a queen-sized bed topped with crisp white linens and a hand quilted coverlet. On either side of the bed are lamps with handy USB ports. Off from the bedroom is a closet with hangers and a sitting/work space centered around a sunny yet private window with second-floor views of the Homestead's seasonal flora and fauna. The bathroom is outfitted with a brand new walk in shower and plenty of storage space. Guest access Guests have full access to all of the lawn, yard games (bocce ball, horse shoes, corn hole, and garden areas. A fire pit/grill area is available. (let us know if you want to use it so we can get wood ready for you). Tours of the restored stone house are included on request. A pickleball/tennis court is within walking distance and a pickle ball set is available for use. Bicycles or Amish scooters are available for use. Property hosts live on the ground floor of the apartment. Other things to note There is no television but you will have high speed WiFi and you have access to 2 bicycles as well as a plethora of yard games. The barn loft apartment is smoke free and vape free, and pets are not allowed. Free parking and contact free check in/out are available. The homestead is adjacent to the Berks County Park system and you can hike or ride the well-known Union Canal Towpath trail that follows the Tulpehocken Creek. You are about a mile from an authentic Amish market (open Thursday-Saturday year round), one mile from Penn State Berks, and several minutes from West Reading and downtown Reading. Picturesque Lancaster county is a 15-20 minute drive and your hosts can give you tips their favorite places to visit off the beaten path. The Harrisburg airport is one hour away and the Philadelphia airport is just over an hour. Hosts live on site in a separate downstairs
