Charm of the old, comfort of the new!
This home is located one mile from the square in Annville. Along that stretch of pavement, you will find local favorites like coffee shops, pubs, and restaurants, a one screen movie theatre, antique and consignment shops, even a gun shop! The charming town also boasts nature parks and reserves and many beautiful, historic homes. Lebanon Valley College is 1.2 miles away, Hersheypark attractions are 8.5 miles, In the Net Sports Complex is 3.3 miles, and the Renaissance Fair is 11 miles away. The space While this home sleeps up to 10 guests, with a first floor bed and bathroom, it is entirely appropriate for just a couple! Enter from the private driveway into the side entrance of the home, using a digital code provided through private message the afternoon of your checkin. This will take you into the laundry/mudroom. The master bedroom and bath are directly to the back of the home, the kitchen and main living space to your left. MANAGED EXPECTATIONS: Please read this listing to its entirety, as A LOT of information is provided here and it will help us all with communication and expectations. This home was built in 1900 and it has seen its share of updates/renovations and additions. It is not new construction. While much has been replaced and updated, there is still a checklist in my mind of things I'd like to see replaced over time. :-) I love charming features like exposed ceilings and restored staircases (and I hope you will appreciate that, too!) Having said that, please do not confuse age and normal wear and tear with a lack of cleanliness. The home is sanitized, dusted, mopped and wiped down before every guest. All sheets/towels are laundered/sanitized between EVERY guest. While all the walls were recently painted, a lot of guests have stayed with us and luggage tends to leave its mark on drywall. :-) The exterior, being smack dab along a busy road that produces much dirt, is blown down or swept off between each guest (when the season allows for outdoor living). Having mentioned the busy, noisy street, there is a noise maker machine in the bedroom closest to the road and you’ll find individually packaged ear plugs in the cabinet in the downstairs bathroom, to add to the comfort of your stay. Important to note on heating/air: I have notes throughout the home but it still seems to confuse guests. Please read, but let me know if you have any concerns: the thermostat in the living room controls the HEAT for the whole house, with the exception of the bedroom/bath on the first floor. (It was an add on space and requires it's own system.) There is a mini-split (heat/air unit) in that first floor bedroom that is used for heating AND air conditioning. This is confusing to explain but maybe will make more sense upon arrival: the other two mini- splits (heat/air units) are in the dining room and the attic bedroom. These TWO units are ONLY needed for air conditioning. Because all three of these units are connected, you cannot change one to "Heat" and the have the others on "A/C;" none of them will function properly. So, all three units on heat or all three units on A/C when in use. Please follow the instructions found in the room regarding use of the mini-split. The remote must be AIMED at the head unit to communicate with it AND you must wait for the two beeps after a selection is made in order to continue. (I.e. if you are increasing your temp, aim the remote and press the up arrow once, wait for the beeps, then you can press it again, if needed.) The Master Bedroom: FIRST FLOOR Ceiling fan/light combo King size bed with Avocado mattress Door to exterior entertainment area Deconstructed closet space with hangers Black out curtains Mini-split supplies heat AND air conditioning to this add-on space. In order to keep costs down for our guests, please keep temps fairly neutral while you are away for the day. The Master Bathroom: FIRST FLOOR Bath, wash cloth and hand towels provided Privacy lock on door NEW Stall shower Hair dryer (under the sink) Toiletries for your use during your stay (in addition to the items listed under “amenities,” also provided is spray deodorants, facial soap, toothpaste and tooth brushes, in case you forgot yours. Please use any item during your stay, but please do not “shop” from the supplies provided. {Obviously if you’ve used a toothbrush/paste, please take that with you.}) Kitchen: Full kitchen: Refrigerator/freezer, Oven/gas range, Microwave Toaster Blender Keurig Coffee pot with coffee K Cups Nespresso espresso machine with milk frother & espresso pods Dishes/cups/mugs/utensils/pots/pans/cookie sheets/cutting boards etc. The kitchen counters were painted with rustoleum countertop paint (a temp fix) and it easily chips/stains- but again, sanitized between every guest. Hopefully we'll have it replaced soon! Fire extinguisher under the sink Again, please keep food covered and stored appropriately. If those unwanted critters are going to make an appearance, it is here- and the evidence is usually right around the oven. We do our best to minimize indoor mice activity but guests can help by being mindful and not allowing food to sit out, in effect, baiting the mice. The old quarry is a cool view from the second floor, but it does have its drawbacks. Dining Room: Dining table w/ 6 chairs and buffet Games are stored in the buffet (please be sure all the game pieces are replaced in the appropriate boxes when you are finished.) Living Room: Smart TV (use Roku for Hulu and Amazon Prime. Please do not order/charge items to our account.) Ceiling fan/light Leather sectional with two recliners The thermostat for the house (again, heat only) is found in the living room. Please turn it back when leaving. Again, please follow mini-split instructions laid out under "master bedroom" above. The unit in the living room is only needed for A/C. Because of the proximity to a busy road and its noise, there are sound machines in every bedroom for your sleep assistance. There is also individually packaged ear plugs in the medicine cabinet in the bathroom downstairs. Upstairs Bathroom: Shower/tub combo Bath, wash cloth, and hand towels provided Hairdryer (under the sink) Toiletries to use during your stay (again, please do not “shop” from the supplies. Use them during your stay and leave them for the next guest (with the exception of toothpaste/brush.) Hallway/Office: Large hallway with desk and chair for office space. There is NO DOOR. Bedroom #2: Queen sized mattress Large closet with hangers Great view of quarry Storage shelves Ceiling fan/light Window a/c unit installed during appropriate months (In order to keep costs down for our guests, please turn the window units off when you leave for the day. The room cools quickly when you turn it on again at night.) Bedroom #3: Queen sized Avocado Mattress Closet with hangers Black out curtains Storage shelves Ceiling fan/light Window a/c unit installed during appropriate months (In order to keep costs down for our guests, please turn the window units off when you leave for the day. The room cools quickly when you turn it on again at night.) Bedroom #4: Attic room, 4 single beds for kiddos Bean bag chairs Books/puzzles Ceiling fan/light Again, please follow mini-split instructions laid out under "master bedroom" above. This room's heat is also controlled by the thermostat in the living room. The mini-split in the attic is ONLY used for A/C. Outdoor space: Covered dining space with hanging chairs Grill (please turn propane off after each use. Please pull it out from under the carport to use) NEW !! This spring, we prepared a new sitting area with a Fire pit (you’ll find wood in a barrel under the carport) and Adirondack chairs, complete with patio lights. We also enlarged the yard by removing bamboo and excessive pavers/blacktop. Large grassy area for kids to run. Again, the yard is not fully fenced, so please keep a close eye on those kiddos. Guest access Digital check in code is provided by host in a private message on the afternoon prior to check in time, as it changes for each guest. Guests have access to the whole house/property except the basement and garage. PLEASE be careful pulling out of the home. Visibility is difficult with parked cars along the road. It is best to turn right and turn around down the road, if needed. We don’t use the front door/porch. It’s so close to the road and the chairs are decorative only (please don’t sit on them; they may not hold). Other things to note Again, with the quarry behind the property and the home sitting along a major road, PLEASE keep an eye on little ones. And please take care in pulling out of the driveway. Additionally, expect road noise at all hours. The quarry will also introduce critters outside the home but we do see mice droppings inside- mostly with the change in weather. We do what we can on our end to eliminate their presence but please do not allow food to sit out uncovered, as you may end up baiting them. Also, please keep food in the dining areas; not in the bedrooms.
