Racha Cornfield House (and mountain views!)
Enjoy great views on Mt. Shoda and Mravaldzali on the two terraces+one balcony of this house, swim in Gharuli river and gaze at the stars at night. Wake up with the sunshine and relax with family and friends in a natural surrounding with (yet) no people living around but still located close to the village center and Oni. The place is an old Kolkhoz territory turned into private plots. Every season has its own charme and beauty The space Summer update: it's getting warm and the river enjoyable! New cheap bus service between Oni and Ghari (6x/day) 2 separate bedrooms with large beds and eco-friendly mattresses available as well as one comfortable bed on the second floor (1,40). For additional guests, we can provide an inflatable mattress. The house was built with pummice (relatively local construction material from Imereti region) and wood. Huge terrace with larch wood, hammock and seats on the second floor, including superb view on Shoda mountain (3600m). On the ground floor additionally 2 terraces, one with perfect mountain view on Mravaldzali, the other facing a walnut tree. Natural surrounding. One big living room with kitchen (including stove, washing machine fridge etc.) To the extent possible, we used materials that were produced locally/regionally, and in an environmentally friendly manner: for community and planetary well-being as well as your health. For the last 50m to our home you can use a dirt road. Depending on your car (and weather condition), you might rather wish to park at the asphalt road. Ghari is a village directly adjacent to Oni and separated by one of the most amazing rivers, Gharula. You can swim in Gharula, it's cold but refreshing and you will mostly see some villagers doing the same. There are several spots for swimming in Gharula, most of which are around 5-10min away from our home by foot. The house is located close to the main road. Nonetheless, it is a calm area and you will be surrounded by corn (and bean) fields, or, alternatively, by a wide range of domestic animals (horses, pigs). There are three shops in the village, 5-7min by foot. There are also several water sources in the village. Additionally, there is a stadium in the village, in which kids can socialize with others and play football or jump around the adjacent playing ground. Ghari is a perfect site for hiking. Some pictures are from nearby Ghari. Happy to provide advice on several treks around (Udziro lake, glaciers, Likheti/Uravi to Skhmedi/Sadmeli, Notsara trail, Shoda mountain etc.) We are a Georgian-German family and my wife (and thus, many of her relatives) is from Racha. My mother-in-law Nana owns and runs the house and can communicate in Georgian, Russian and Greek. We hope you will love Ghari, Oni and Upper Racha as much as we do.
