Stay in the Church House for a one-of-a-kind experience! Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this charming old chapel (c. 1905) has also been a coffee shop and art studio, and is now a unique 2-bedroom home. Located on the main street into downtown, it's a VERY short walk to shops, eateries, bars, and all the fun Wallace things to do! And a short drive to skiing, ATV, and more. UPDATE 11/23: we now have a new shower! And white paint on all the walls! New photos coming soon. The space MAIN ROOM & LAYOUT: The main room, the former sanctuary, features a cool vaulted barrel ceiling and beautiful arched stained glass windows. This room has a living area area with leather sofa, comfy oversized chair, tv, coffee table with hidden foosball under its cover, a daybed, a long dining table with seating for 6 but room for more, an old-time piano, and a full kitchen. The front entry, formerly the church vestibule, has a little twin sofa bed and a fully-packed game/movie cabinet. Central A/C and ceiling fans will keep you cool in the summer; new furnace plus an electric fireplace will keep you toasty in winter. On either side of the back of the main room there is a bedroom, one with king bed and one with queen; located on opposite sides of the building which affords extra privacy when you want it. SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS: The queen room has French doors leading to a little deck and large brick patio, and the bathroom is next to this bedroom. The king room is located on the other side of the house and has sparkly stained glass windows. Both have very comfortable beds! Note that highway noise can be heard from the king bedroom; earplugs are provided for light sleepers. Wallace does have a highway going through it - with a very interesting history - and no place in town is more than a few blocks away. And old houses were not built with modern soundproofing. The living area has a twin daybed tucked in the corner, and a sixth guest will have their their choice of a twin rollaway (can be placed in any room) or a twin fold out sofa bed in the entryway that’s basically like sleeping on a 4” mattress on the floor (Neither is ideal for grandma or grandpa but they’re more than sufficient for the kiddos.) BATHROOM: One small but cute bathroom has a gorgeous new custom tiled shower (no tub) and old pedestal sink. Towels and toiletries provided. LOCATION: easily walk to all of the town's shops, restaurants, pubs, museums, the melodrama theater, Silver Streak ziplines, and more. The Church House is super easy to find, and it’s convenient for bikers from the Trail of the Coeur D'Alenes right across the road/river. The historic library is located right across the road, and the famous Red Light Garage with its Insta-worthy space ship and huckleberry milkshakes is just around the corner. Easily hop on the highway for a quick drive to two stellar ski resorts in winter, Silver and Lookout Pass, or the Route of the Hiawatha amazing bike trail in the summer. Or explore the mountains and woods surrounding the town on ATV, snowmobile, snowshoes, e-bike (which you can rent by the hour from our shop, the Spokehouse). Fish, kayak, stand-up paddle board around gorgeous mountain lakes and streams around Wallace. AMENITIES: The Church House has a washer and dyer that guests can use (though we hope you have better things to do with your time than the laundry!). The kitchen has a stainless French-door fridge, full oven/stove, microwave, toaster oven, Keurig and drip coffee makers (coffee provided), and one tiny little sink (hard to do dishes in!). Since this was once a coffee shop, the kitchen layout is unique; some of our little guests have enjoyed playing pretend coffee shop here. There are plenty of dishes, utensils, pots and pans, oil, etc. to cook a nice meal, but with the restaurants and cafes so close and the sink so small, it's likely you won't spend much time cooking anyways! IN-HOUSE ENTERTAINMENT: Enjoy a large collection of board games, play the piano, or Netflix and chill with Amazon firestick on the TV, DVD player, and a collection of DVDs. Wifi included. The TV is on a rolling cart, so you can move it to wherever you'd like to watch it. The coffee table converts to a little foosball table or felt-covered gaming table. EXTERIOR: Outside there is a small deck and a fenced brick courtyard, with table and seating for enjoying your morning coffee or glass of wine under the stars, or grilling out with views of the library's mini park and the mountains/woods beyond. There is no backyard at the Church House. PETS: Fur babies are welcome! The pet fee is $15/nt. per pet. There is a grassy area designated for dog usage right across Fifth st. (the Church House has no grassy yard, just brick courtyard and landscaping rocks). NOTE! AirBnB's new pet fee only allows us to choose one fee spread out over the stay, regardless of how many pets or how many days. We have set it at $30 since most people stay 2 nights and don't bring more than 1 pet. If your situation differs, please let us know and we will adjust the fees separately (staying more than 2 nights or bringing more than one pet, or one dog one night). ALSO NOTE: no pets on furniture! Thank you! CONVENIENCE: One night stays and last-minute bookings can usually be accommodated. Late check-in at any hour is not a problem since you will be given a keycode to let yourself in when you arrive. PARKING: You can park on the street right in front of the Church House or right on the side, just steps to the front door. Note that the uncomfortable sofa mentioned in some older reviews has long since been replaced with a very comfy leather couch. And we now have central air conditioning! And a bigger shower! And fresh white walls that brighten things up! Guest access Guests will have the place to themselves with full access. Other things to note The Wallace Church House is located near the highway, as is basically all of the small town of Wallace. There can be the possibility of road noise at night in the king bedroom; the queen room is on the quieter side of the building. Very light sleepers may consider using the fan to drone out any road noise or using earplugs (provided). Other than the sound of the occasional truck going by, the Church House is actually a very peaceful place!
