Dozo - Please come enjoy my Asian inspired home. Beautiful reminders of my Japanese heritage. Located in the heart of Hilo where plantation homes line the streets and "aloha" is still grown here. Just minutes from Historical Hilo town, beautiful "blue lagoon" beaches/ turtles, shopping & restaurants. Our plantation home is one of the last surviving Lapahoehoe school homes in Hawaii... Doze off to the enchanting songs of coqui frogs. An 18% tax is added at booking For Airbnb taxes in Hawaii. The space The HAPA HALE was originally built in Lapahoehoe as one of the school teachers residence. After the 1946 Tsunami the school was moved to higher ground and some of the residences were sold off for $750... Our cottage was moved to Hilo in the early 70's. We updated with the goal of preserving as much of the "plantation" style, as we could. There were many Japanese living in Hawaii by the early 1900's. You'll notice many stores and businesses with Japanese names. HAPA means "half, part or mixed". HAOLI means "not Hawaiian". HALE means "house or home". I am "Hapa" ...part Japanese and not Hawaiian. Hence, HAPA HALE... Guest access The residence is a shared duplex. So please be aware that there is a "shared" wall. You'll also have one shared parking space, which has been designated for your unit. You can also enjoy the yard space in the front of the home. Please be advised...HAPA HALE sits 6' off the ground with 6-7 stair steps to the front door. You must determine for yourself if access is manageable or not. Other things to note Please be Advise that there is 3 separate Taxes For AirBNB In Hawaii. An 18% tax is added. High It rains a lot in Hilo. (157" year) Umbrellas are a must have... Stand on the porch...close your eyes and smell the rain...like a good wine, how would you describe it? heavy? grassy? salty? pick up traces of fern or plumeria? I love the smell of a summer storm... Watch out for our goofy roads and streets that change directions when schools get out. 35 mile an hour speed limit and unmarked police cars.
