This is the cozy, romantic cottage you've been dreaming of! Fall asleep to the sound of the stream outside the window. Enjoy sledding, snowshoeing, or XC skiing around the meadow, or use this as a convenient base for all your Vermont adventures. Nestled in a hidden valley in the center of Vermont, the cottage is conveniently located a short drive from many ski areas, award-winning Montpelier and Randolph restaurants, the bustle of the Mad River Valley and I-89. The space The cottage is a comfortable, peaceful refuge for 1-2 people. With large south-facing windows, it is cozy and bright. It overlooks a stream and rolling meadows. You'll wake up to the sounds of the stream and bird songs. On a clear night, our skies are filled with stars, as this area has one of the darkest skies in the northeast. While the cottage is stocked with books, puzzles, a record player and a beautiful stove for firelit evenings, it has all the conveniences for a low-key vacation. A full kitchen (range, full-size fridge, microwave and multiple coffee makers; no dishwasher) for at home meal prep. High-speed wireless internet so you can add some WFH days onto your vacation. A heated, attached garage for convenient gear storage. A thermostat-operated stove so you can have the ambiance of a woodstove without the mess or hassle. Outside, we hope you'll get a chance to admire the incredible night skies, as we are located in one of the darkest parts of the Eastern US. We welcome you to bring your XC skis, snowshoes or sleds to explore the 26-acres on private forest trails, meadow paths, sledding hills, and surrounding dirt roads. We are close to Montpelier, Northfield, Norwich University, the Mad River Valley, and Randolph. Come for foliage, skiing, mountain biking, or relaxing. (45 minutes to Sugarbush base lodge, 1 hour to Stowe and Killington.) Note for guests considering a winter or spring visit to Vermont: weather conditions can change quickly at this time of year, and we recommend an AWD vehicle (ideally one with snow tires) anywhere in Vermont - not only for dirt roads. We have found Turo often has affordable 4WD vehicles with snow tires, whereas commercial rental agencies typically don't install snow tires. Guest access GARAGE + PARKING: The cottage is a stand-alone home with a back deck/door and garage as its entries. You have full access to the attached 1-car garage. We are happy to let you know the best place to park a second car, or a truck/trailer that is too large for the garage. DRIVEWAY + NEIGHBORS: The 26-acre property has three houses accessed from a shared driveway; each house is secluded and private. We live in the Farmhouse on site and are available if needed but are happy to leave you alone. We welcome your company if you want to come tour the farm with us, and are always happy to share our favorite recommendations so you can experience the hidden gems in our beautiful area. WINTER ACCESS: Our driveway is not steep, and our dirt road is well-maintained in winter. We're just a few minutes from a paved road and the Interstate. If you have a good winter car (AWD and/or snow tires) you should be fine in typical winter weather. In a big storm, we recommend making an extra cup of tea and spending a bit longer by the stove until you hear the plow trucks go by. SURROUNDING AREA: The surrounding area is rural, with large forested parcels and few neighbors. We're less than 10 minutes from the I-89 exit, and there are multiple grocery stores and wonderful restaurants within 20 minutes. Please see our Guidebook or send us a message for recommendations. We're located between Randolph and Northfield, which both have grocery stores and excellent restaurants. We also encourage you to explore Montpelier, our lovely capital city, with an amazing selection of local stores, wonderful restaurants, and a great natural food co-op. Other things to note CANCELLATION POLICY: We understand that unforeseen issues can impact your ability to get to Vermont and we encourage you to get trip insurance to protect your investment. We strive to keep our nightly prices as low as possible, therefore we do not have the ability to provide last minute refunds for any reason, including power outages, weather events, guest emergencies, etc. Please review our cancellation policy before booking.
