Welcome to the John Brown House, a restored 1836 townhouse listed on the National Register of Historic Places and situated in the heart of Newburgh's Historic East End (55 miles north of NYC). The house, combining historic charm with distinctive style and modern amenities, is within walking distance of the bustling renaissance of Liberty Street’s cafes, art galleries and shops, Washington’s 1782 Headquarters, and the restaurants and Hudson River views of the Newburgh waterfront. The space The 3-story house was designed to offer families and groups plenty of opportunity to commune together and retreat when needed. There is a sitting room and large television on each of the three floors, and plenty of places to work, including a desk in the kitchen, a work table in the sitting room on the second floor and desks in two separate bedrooms on the third floor (the house is equipped with high-speed wifi and a printer can be provided by request). When you want to gather, the well-stocked chef’s kitchen offers a 6-foot island where visitors can sit and keep the cook company. This opens to the living room and is connected to a dining area with a table that seats 8 (or 9-10 in a pinch). The master suite on the second floor comprises a bedroom and connected sitting room with a sofa/daybed which can be used for a ninth guest by request. (The sitting room can be closed off from the master bedroom when needed by two double doors.) The third floor features three bedrooms and a central sitting room with another television. Other things to note - The City of Newburgh's East End Historic District, the birthplace of Victorian architecture, is undergoing significant architectural revitalization. Read the 'Neighborhood Description' to learn more about the area, which is rich in history, culture, community, and socioeconomic diversity. - The house has many features for kids (hide-and-go-seek spots, books and games, chalkboard walls, playroom, gated backyard and window gates). However, it also has three floors and two sets of stairs. Baby gates are available to be installed for an additional fee, and strongly recommended for children three and under. - Please treat the house like your mother lives here. Don't move the furniture. Put things back where you found them. Close and lock all doors and windows before you leave the premises. And for goodness' sake, no parties or smoking. - Please note the fireplaces are not operable.
