Casa Mono - Contemporary Design meets 1920’s Charm
Casa Mono is Spanish for Monkey House! This house, built in 1920, is modeled after at Tudor-style architecture. Casa Mono is a 3 bedroom house with nicely appointed amenities and interior design. It is located within a 12-minute walk to the Orange NJ Transit Station which can whisk you to Penn Station, NY in 40 minutes. Please note this is not a party house. We recently added a basement studio with separate entrance where would live during your stay, giving you full access to the 3 floors. The space Casa Mono is our full-time residence however we do rent it out. Because schedules are always changing we had to turn off the instant-book feature. If you are interested in renting for days that look blocked off please inquire in case that is done in error, the same goes for dates that appear open. Never hurts to ask! We recently added a studio to the basement which has its own separate entry through the backyard. There is a good chance that during your stay we will be staying in the basement to allow you free reign of the 3 floors above. We are happy to do this to offer more date availability. If we are there during your stay we will also take care of setting out and taking in of weekly trash and recycling. We can have as much of as little interaction as is comfortable for you. It’s a win-win situation! Please read the description below as well as the welcome letter when you arrive for all the rules. Upon entry through the front door, we have provided an area for you to remove your shoes and coats and hang them up. We kindly as that you don’t wear shoes in the house to protect the wood floors and carpets. We also suggest that you keep the glass pane door closed to keep the heat/cold contained to the entry vestibule for a more comfortable stay. Once inside, the living room is to your left which has a very comfortable brown leather sofa with Moroccan inspired rugs and seating. It’s a casual and very comfortable living room with a fireplace and TV for convenience. Please no food or drink in the living room to avoid any accidents on the furniture or rug. On the other side of the room is the office/library where there is a large banker’s desk and monitor for you to use. Behind the desk is our library with interesting pieces of art and also a record player for you to spin some tunes. Just beyond the library is the 3-season sunroom with an oversized papasan loveseat. Just beyond the entry is the dining room painted in a rich blue that compliments the wood flooring & trim. The dining table seats 8 people and the walls are adorned with artwork collected from our travels. We also have a bar cart with a full bar. Please feel free to consume our alcohol but be generous and replace what you do use. Next to the dining room, beyond the dual-action swinging door, is the fully fitted-out kitchen. Available are all the kitchen utensils and tools you need to cook yourself a fabulous dinner plus a large fridge. Just off the kitchen is a breakfast nook inspired by mid-century furniture and a vintage Herman Miller pendant. Next to that is the powder room. Please note that in the breakfast nook is a filtered water cooler. The whole house is on a filtered water system so any faucet is great to drink from. The back door takes you to the backyard where in the summer months we have outdoor furniture, a dining table and BBQ for you to use. Please cover all furniture and BBQ with the covers provided before you leave and close the umbrella. Back inside, a door in the kitchen leads you to the basement and another door to access the backyard. We most likely will be occupying the basement during your stay so we kindly ask that you don’t come to the basement if it’s not necessary. Also in the basement is where the full-sized washer/dryer and ironing board are located. You are free to use it! Please do not add detergent, it has a tank that is filled with detergent and will dispense as needed. Please use either softener sheets or add liquid softener. Up the stairs on the 2nd floor, are 3 bedrooms and 1 full bathroom. Linens and first aid are located in the hall closet. Each bedroom has a queen size bed and a remote-controlled ceiling fan. Continuing up to the 3rd floor is the family room with 65” TV, sectional sofa, and Apple TV & Xbox. Also up there is another desk with a monitor for you to use and get some work done away from the bustle of the main floors. We also recently added a bar up there with a mini-fridge to supplement any hanging out going on in front of the TV. Again, please feel free to leave a tip if you use a large quantity of beverages/snacks supplied. Guest access Guests can access the whole house except for locked closets, the garage and some areas of the basement. Guests will share the laundry and gym with us as they are both located in the basement. Other things to note PARKING: Guests will not have access to the garage. Guests are to park in the driveway only as the town does not allow street parking on our street after 6PM and cars will be towed. Guests are allowed to park 2 cars in single file in front of the left garage door, leaving the right garage door clear. If a guest needs to park additional cars, they can, but we would need to coordinate in order for us to get our car out of the garage when needed. FIRE PIT: We have a fire pit outside for seasonal use. Please keep it covered with the screen when burning and watch out for embers marking the outdoor furniture. Please use at your own risk and you will assume any responsibility for any accidents to persons or property. If there is wood around feel free to use it but we will not be stocking it for guests, you can pick up a bundle at the Shoprite. FIREPLACE: In the winter months you can use the indoor fireplace. The fireplace is meant to be used with the doors closed. It is tricky to light. There is no flue to open. Please use at your own risk and you will assume any responsibility for any accidents to persons or property. If there is wood around feel free to use it but we will not be stocking it for guests, you can pick up a bundle at the Shoprite. AC: The house has central AC and heat via forced air. There is a thermostat on each floor to control the temperature of that floor. You shouldn't need to adjust the temperature but might need to move it from Away mode to Home mode when you arrive/leave.
