Little House on the Pretty(LHP) is part of Sittin Pretty Farm. LHP is tucked into the woods giving a place to retreat and restore. The home is finely crafted embodying a simple elegance and character of the Driftless locale. Once inside, a sense of marvel and serenity are sure make heartfelt memories. We are six miles from Viroqua and nestled among Amish Paradise with several neighboring Amish farms. In season the Amish have roadside vegetable stands where you can purchase veggies and pie! The space LHP was built on site by Steve finished in May 2021. This was a labor of love with the help of Amish neighbors. We used local woods like red cedar, cherry, knotty pine, red oak, black walnut and maple to create a space that is at once old and full of character and new and invigorating. This tiny house space is about 450 square feet including two open lofts for sleeping. Note that the lofts may present accessibility issues as one loft has a steep stair case and the other a ladder to get up to them. Also the ceilings above the loft are low. With plenty of windows including a large stained glass the home sparkles with natural light gathering the morning sun and comforted by the shade of the woods for the afternoon. Though artistic in its elegant simplicity you will still find the conveniences of the modern home including running water, hot water, shower, flushing toilet, and a glass top full size electric oven, A short hike through the woods brings you out to a dead end road where there are expansive views to the West to watch the sun set. Guest access There is one dedicated parking spot for this home and room for a second car can be arranged. The hard top county road we are on is great for a touring bike. Walk to neighboring Amish farms. Other things to note It should be noted that though we have established a reputation as a peaceful place to make a country retreat beginning in May 13 of 2022 we will be opening up our Friday night pizza nights out of the community building on the property. There may very well be crowds on the property from 4-9. The community building may also be rented on other days for other events such as group retreats, weddings, and fundraiser meals. Though your guest space will be respected your peace and quiet will likely be interrupted during these times. We hope you’ll take the opportunity to join us for some splendid wood fired sour dough pizza, a beer and wine bar and Amish pie all to live music as we fund raise for various non profits. The home has a wall air conditioner for the hottest days. However the cool shade of the woods as well as opening windows makes for a pleasant space, especially in the evening. As the weather turns colder we install the wood stove that needs tending with a space heater for supplemental heat. Though the space is quiet and serene most times occasionally events at the Party Barn to be opened Fall 2021 make for more commotion. Also we caution children and people with mobility challenges staying here only because of the stairs and ladder going up to the loft are not safe in terms of conventional buildings.
