Private and remote cottage on an 11 acre island on the Greenbrier river. 15 minute drive to Lewisburg, 25 minute drive to the Greenbrier resort. This is the perfect getaway for relaxing privately on the river with friends and family, fishing and camping. Hunting is allowed on property during all seasons! Abundant wild turkey, deer and black bear. The house will sleep 8 comfortably- and camp as many as you'd like with an accessible outdoor bathroom on the back porch. 4X4 vehicles only!! The space The property sits on an island as depicted on the location pin. The cottage was built by CSX Railroad in 1940 for the executives and engineers that were working on the railroad tunnel across the river at the time. They saw the piece of property that the cottage sits on and thought it would be a great place to build a house! It has since been lifted and put a greenbrier river rock foundation under it, as well as added bathrooms and a master bedroom through the years. The master bedroom downstairs has a king-size bed with bathroom attached. The upstairs bedroom has 2 full size beds and 2 twin size beds. There is also a full bathroom with a tub/shower. The house is equipped with floats, canoe, corn hole and other games. We have also recently added WIFI to keep you connected in the middle of nowhere =). Other things to note 1+ mile of private greenbrier river frontage! Trout fishing- "Second creek" access from the property. The best time to fly fish this tributary is during the spring, fall and winter. You will cross second creek as you drive onto the parcel across the low water bridge. Second Creek is a large spring-fed creek that’s a tributary of the Greenbrier River. This is a stocked stream known for its large brown trout. Unlike most spring creeks, this one has a gravel bottom rather than a silt and sand bottom common to most spring creeks. The house sits in a very remote area- an island that fronts the greenbrier river and behind the house is a "lake", a beautiful water runoff created by the piece of land and the mountain behind the home. The terrain to cross to get to the home is only suitable for 4x4 vehicles! Please take this into consideration before booking! The property is accessible most of the year starting in the spring/summer/fall. Occasionally, with heavy rain, the river will rise to a level that makes the property inaccessible via vehicle.
