Welcome to our 1960's "granny house" cottage, part of an Old Florida fish camp. Your private space features A/C, a screened-in porch, and the peace and quiet of rural Florida along the beautiful St. John's River. Enjoy the tiki bar, fire pit, and boat launch to relax, or use the cottage as your home base while you explore all the area has to offer! The space This is true Old Florida living, with lush (and slightly overgrown) tropical gardens, excellent bird watching, and the occasional snake. Other local wildlife includes alligators (of course), deer, bear, bobcat, wild hogs, fox, coyote, ring tailed cats, and the famous Palatka monkeys. The neighbors have chickens, pigs, and horses, and sometimes an escapee will visit! The space is a comfy cottage, full of vintage touches and local art. It is not fancy, a bit like a campground cottage, but it is clean and comfortable, with period dishware, soft cotton linens, and a screened porch. We are lovingly restoring the property, and a grill and summer kitchen are available. The railroad tracks are just a block away, and the whistle sounds romantic on a rainy night. The cottage is one large room with a bed, bistro table and chairs, an armoire, a shelf with a tv, books and dishes, and a fridge/microwave. The bathroom is a separate room with a small curtained dressing area. Guests can also enjoy a private screened porch. The summer kitchen is a rustic space screened in with a counter, propane burners, slop sink, toaster oven, blender, and espresso machine. Pots and pans and dish soap are also provided. An herb garden is right outside the door of the cottage. We grow food crops and my daughter does lamp-working (glass) on the property, and we are happy to answer questions. We want you to have fun, so we provide a picnic basket, beach towels, beach chairs, small cooler, sun hats, books of local interest, and games and puzzles for guest use. This property was the top-rated Airbnb in the area for a few years, and we bought it from the original owner, a good friend. We are continuing his philosophy of clean accommodations and honest hospitality at a reasonable rate. This is a Safe Space for everyone. Please note, the yard is fully fenced and dogs live here. We have a well and septic system. The water does NOT smell funny or off, but because well water does not agree with all tummies, we will provide a gallon of drinking water and six single serving bottled waters. Please recycle the containers! We do not allow smoking. Guest access We have a fenced yard and driveway. You are welcome to park in the yard or in one of our two street spaces. Just let us know your preference! You will need a car or motorcycle to explore the area. Other things to note This is Florida, and there are many insects. We do not have many insects inside the cottages, but they are outside, and they occasionally fly into open doors. Please know that all areas are treated and we do our best to rely on non-toxic pest deterrents whenever possible. No smoking.
