As you approach the island by boat, the troubles and worries of the real world will fade away. Be on the lookout for tranquil manatees and playful dolphins that love to show off their aerial skills. Roughly 25 minutes after leaving the mainland, you will step ashore at one of the two ferry docks on the island. A host from our new property management company will greet you at the dock and escort you, via golf cart, the very short distance to Paradise Palms. There are no paved roads, traffic lights or traffic jams on this island. A North Captiva traffic jam is three golf carts within 50 yards of each other. North Captiva is a barrier island with five miles of beautiful white sand beaches, no crowds, turtles, dolphins and manatees. The majority of the island is State Park which you can enjoy free of charge. The sky deck has 360 degree views of the Gulf of Mexico, Cayo Costa and Pine Island Sound. North Captiva Island has so much to offer! Sip your coffee as you enjoy inspiring sunrises from the roof deck in one our Adirondack chairs. Walk across the road to the boat docks to search for manatees. Walk any of the five miles of beaches, looking for shells. Charter a boat with one of the many experienced Captains to experience world class fishing. Kayak, paddle-board or swim in the warm shallow waters that surround the island. Load up your golf cart and head to the pristine white sand beaches to spend the day. Walk into the park and find your own stretch of private beach with no one around. Head back to your private pool for a cocktail and grill up the catch of the day or walk the beach at sunset, then head to one of the four great restaurants on the island for dinner. Don't forget to catch the moon and stars from the sky deck before turning in. There is plenty of room for all to gather in the open concept living area. The Master suite has a queen bed, attached bathroom, two dressers, a closet and a sliding glass door for pool deck access. Bedroom 2 has a queen bed, dresser, closet and also walks out to the pool deck. Bedroom 3 has a queen bed, dresser and closet. Bedroom 4 is a loft (with pocket door) that has a sleeper sofa and dresser. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (beginning with Hurricane Ian specific questions): HURRICANE IAN UPDATE: Unlike some owners in SW Florida, we want to be completely upfront with you about the damage from Hurricane Ian. On Sept 28th, 2022 Hurricane Ian passed directly over North Captiva Island with 155+mph winds and some storm surge. North Captiva did not get the brunt of the storm surge like Ft. Myers Beach and Sanibel so there was only minor damage to most of the homes. The clean up process continues. Our home has been completely cleaned and new exterior fixtures have been added. Please see our FAQ's below for specific answers about hurricane damage and recovery. What damage does our house have? Luckily our house was built in 2015 with the latest hurricane standards and impact windows. The inside living area of the house was not damaged at all and the house remained completely dry throughout the storm. On the outside of the house we lost exterior ceiling fans, trim, soffit and a few other light fixtures. The light fixtures and fans have been replaced. We have added a brand new Weber grill. As you can imagine, with so much damage in SW Florida, it is tough to get contractors lined up so there are still some missing trim pieces on the outside of the house. We also lost some trees and shrubs which will be replaced in time. What is going on with debris cleanup? Our property has been picked up completely. Debris cleanup on the island will more than likely continue into February. On our property we lost four palm trees and over 15 shrubs. Most of the debris is being shipped off the island. The remoteness that makes North Captiva so special is also the cause for a slightly slower cleanup process. Are the restaurants open? The restaurants have reopened and will continue to extend their hours as things improve and demand increases. For example Mainstay is currently closed Monday and Tuesday and open only 11-3:30 on the other days. Mango's Grill is open weekends until 9pm and weekdays until 4:30 but will stay open longer if they're busy. OTW is ready to open, but looking for more staff. Are the dolphins and manatees back? Yes they are! Will they be burning debris on the island? So far there are no plans for that nor are there any permits in place yet. Can I drive to the island? No. Travel to the island is by ferry, small boat or small plane only. If you are using your own boat you may park and launch from Pineland Marina and dock at Barnacles which is 2/10ths of a mile from our house. Please contact Mainstay/ Barnacles directly for pricing. You can also take one of the scheduled ferries from Pine Island. Island Girl Charters docks closest to our house (about a 1000 ft). North Captiva Island Club ferry docks about 3/4 of a mile from the house. IS A GOLF CART INCLUDED? WE PROVIDE ONE GOLF CART FREE OF CHARGE AND HAVE ANOTHER AVAILABLE TO RENT SEPARATELY. IT IS NEW AND CHEAPER TO RENT THAN OTHERS ON THE ISLAND. PLEASE INQUIRE AFTER YOU RECEIVE THE WELCOME PACKET. Is there a grocery store on the island? There is a small market that has some essentials, located near the club dock but we recommend that you either buy your own groceries for the week and transport them on the ferry or use the grocery buying service available through Shally's Seashells (This is our property manager and they well send you information after booking) or Elite Grocery Service. Are there restaurants and bars on the island? Yes. There are four: Barnacles Bar and Grill, Mangos Cafe and Grill, Over The Waterfront and the Boathouse. The last two require reservations during the busy season. Are you part of the club? No we are not club members because we have our own private pool. You are still welcome at the club restaurants and you can rent bikes or kayaks from them or Boats and Fun. Travel to North Captiva should begin with checking on flights to one of the major international airports nearby. SW Florida International (RSW) is a quiet and convenient airport that is about 36 miles away from Pineland Marina. Punta Gorda Airport (PGD) is about 32 miles away. Tampa (TPA) is about a 2 1/2 hour drive and Sarasota (SRQ) is about an hour and 40 minutes if you want to rent a car and drive down to Pine Island. By Car From the South or North of I-75 From I-75 (exit 143) or US 41, head west on Pine Island Rd. (State Road 78), then take a right on Stringfellow Rd. (State Road 767) in Pine Island Center. Three miles down, take a left on Pineland Road. This will turn into Waterfront Drive and you'll see the Marina on the left, nestled on the shores of Pine Island Sound. By Airport Shuttle We recommend Carlos at Strictly Southern Transportation. He has a new, large SUV and cost is about $70 one way. Contact us for his contact number. By Uber Uber drivers can pick you up at either major airport RSW or PGD. The drive time is about the same as the taxi company, but you may have a small amount more wait time if your driver is not at the airport waiting for you to arrive.
