That Cabin in the Woods
Leave this hectic world behind! Nestled amongst pines, this rustic OFF-THE-GRID (NO ELECTRIC & LIMITED PLUMBING) one room cabin sits alongside a stream, deep in the woods with no one else in sight. Beautiful views of the stream, wildlife and natural landscape can be enjoyed by the fire pit roasting marshmallows or from the rocking chair next to the wood stove. Sit long enough and the stream’s tranquil sounds will lull you to sleep! This perfect getaway is designed for no more than two people. The space This newly built 14' x 32' (interior 14'x26') cabin is truly off-the-grid in that it has NO Electricity and NO running water (limited plumbing). Set on 7.5 acres, we are two hours north of NYC and close to many local attractions. Drinking water is provided in gallon jugs. Rain barrel water is used for washing and cleaning. This rainwater can be heated on the propane grill and used in our indoor "trickle bucket shower". The overhead bucket inside the shower stall has a hand valve that, when opened, "trickles" the water slowly giving ample time to shower. A separate room houses the composting toilet that utilizes organic material (sawdust) after each use. Battery operated lanterns supply lighting after dark. A small wood burning stove takes the chill out of any cool evenings or mornings. Dry seasoned firewood is provided. A propane gas grill sits on the outside covered porch. There is a queen bed and futon sofa. The kitchen area/counter has cast iron pans for those adventurous enough to try some "over the fire pit" cooking. Otherwise, the propane grill and side burner can cook up whatever you crave. The surrounding 7.5 acres are a woodsy, rocky challenge for anyone wishing a short trek along the property lines. The 900 foot red shale rock driveway can be a problem for low clearance cars. 4WD or AWD vehicles are strongly recommended especially for the somewhat steep and curving driveway incline. Centrally situated in rural Sullivan County, we are ten minutes away from the original Woodstock site in Bethel, NY which is now an active concert venue called "Bethel Woods". The site hosts beer, wine and harvest festivals as well as its own interactive Woodstock museum. All concert and outdoor events can be perused online. Besides this historic site, Sullivan County boasts the Delaware River, hiking trails galore and local farm and shopping markets. Lovely little towns like Callicoon, Narrowsburg, Jeffersonville, Livingston Manor and Roscoe provide wonderful day trips for shopping, strolling or food and drink at many of the restaurants, bars, and breweries. And if "roughing it" gets to be a little too tough, nearby convenience gas stations will ease the burden. The Resorts World Casino and Kartrite Indoor Water Park are also 15 minutes away. Also nearby is the Sullivan County Airport used for smaller aircraft (which will remind you of the Alaskan bush planes that sometimes cruise overhead). Although we prefer to be technology-free and do not have wifi, cellular service is sometimes available, but can be a little spotty. It is strongly recommended to arrive at the cabin during daylight hours because the woods do get dark. Very dark! Unfortunately, we do not allow pets. This quaint destination is designed for no more than two people. It is the perfect romantic getaway!
