Guest access You will have access to all spaces on the property, other than our own private house and entrance. However, we are always willing to show you around and offer a cup of tea or coffee to our guests. Other things to note We are a 3 hour scenic drive from San Jose, without traffic and stops. You should plan for 5-6 hours from landing in SJO to arriving at the house (it gets dark at 6:00pm all year round and mountain pass gets foggy and rain in the afternoons) and give yourself minimum 6 hours from leaving the house to your flight departure! The road is paved all the way to the house! DO NOT take any short cuts on dirt roads! If driving from San Jose, be sure to drive on ‘highway 2’ all the way to San Isidro, where you will turn off the main road onto ‘route 242’ all the way to the house. Although you do not need 4x4 to reach the house, it is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED to rent a mid size SUV to access the property and to get around. The house and terrain on the property can be challenging, especially during the rainy season, and therefore is not necessarily recommended or suitable for guests with mobility issues or anyone that requires special access. This is a 1.5 bedroom house with open master bedroom upstairs and cosy open second bedroom ‘nook’ downstairs. This rooming layout may not be suitable for 2 couples, if you want privacy! The house has a minimalist design (open bannisters inside house and no fence around pool) which is not suitable for toddlers and young children. We have CATS and DOGS that live in our house, but will most likely come to visit, at some point during your stay. If you have allergies or simply aren’t a cat or dog person, then this may not be the right Airbnb for you. Otherwise, we only have 3 rules: 1. Please do not feed them 2. Give them lots of cuddles 3. Send them home by dark We are very fortunate, due to the elevation and climate, not to have many mosquitoes. You may see the odd one during the daytime in the shady spots, but none at night. However, we do live in the tropical cloud forest and so you may encounter the odd interesting bug! We live at 1200m/4000ft elevation and usually experience warm dry sunny mornings and cooler wet misty afternoons. The evenings and early mornings can be fresh and we suggest packing a pair of comfortable long pants, sweatshirt and wool socks for relaxing in the house. The property is located on 140m/500ft of fast running mountain riverfront. This creates a constant white noise throughout the year, which some guests may find rather intense and others very soothing. The house is situated a safe distance above the river, but you should take extra care when approaching the river, especially in the rainy season, when the water is high! You may hear and see kayakers in the river down below, but swimming in the main part of the river should be undertaken with great caution and under supervision by an adult. However, We have a fresh water bio-pool that is accessible all year round and excellent for cooling down in the sunny mornings or after a sauna! We have installed an electric 'bio-sauna' on the property, that we are very happy to share with our guests. However, we ask you to prebook a session directly with us and we charge a minimal fee of $40 per 90 minute session ($100 for 3 sessions) to cover the running costs of the sauna, cleaning and laundry.
