Fully equipped Camper, with a spacious front porch. Maximum: 4 occupants. Queen bed. Futon inside the camper sleeps one. Large futon on the porch sleeps two. Bunk beds for two children <10. Full kitchen. Composting toilet and outhouse (no flush toilet). Indoor tiny shower, plus an outdoor shower and washer/dryer. Close to Elizabethtown, Essex. Pet friendly, with 32 acres of woodland with trails that will take you to ledges with views of Coon Mt. Easy access from I-87, the Adirondack Northway. The space We used to do a lot of canoe camping in our younger days. We call this "glamping." Refrigeration, a/c, high-speed WiFi, and an oven are wonderful luxuries... Good news! We will be fully solar powered soon… hopefully in September! We tried to imagine, if we were returning from a week-long canoe trip, what would we want? A hot shower, a washer and dryer, internet connection, and a good hot meal. We are “living the dream in the Adirondacks,” and we are happy to share with others. We have enjoyed visiting the Adirondacks for many years. My father was born in Keene and grew up in Keene Valley. We still have family in the area. My husband Richard and I just retired in June 2024. We could not think of a more beautiful and peaceful place to live out our retirement years. We searched for 6 years and finally settled on the gray house in Westport, with 32 acres of wooded land. We love the Westport-Wadhams-Whallonsburg-Essex area. The people are warm and friendly, creative and outdoorsy. We find people who enjoy hiking, crafting, gardening, making music... The Grange Hall and Whitcomb's Arts Studio in Whallonsburg are great places to meet people interested in art, jam sessions, and films. Classical music lovers will enjoy incredible performances at the Meadowmount School of Music during their summer program, as well as around the community (roughly June-August). Live theater performances are available right in the Westport train station building! You can find yoga in the park, Adirondack history exploration in Elizabethtown is great for a rainy day at the Adirondack History Museum. Check the What's Happening in Westport FB page for local current events. When you make a reservation, I will send you a virtual “packet” of information about places to go, local events, restaurants, etc. We look forward to meeting you. 😉 Guest access You have the entire camper, porch, high-speed satellite internet, full kitchen, indoor full bathroom with composting toilet, outdoor shower and washer/dryer, fire pit, outdoor seating, outhouse and 32-acre woodland surroundings. Feel free to explore the two marked walking trails (former logging trails). One is marked with orange tags; the other green. Park in front of the camper. There are two barns and a gray house nearby, which are not included. My husband Richard is a talented woodworker. He makes beautiful bread knives, cutting boards, furniture, cabinets, as well as urns and caskets. Right now he is still setting up his shop. Soon he will again produce gorgeous pieces. We are located in a central area… You can reach us easily from I-97, the “Northway,” exit 31. To the east you will find the Champlain Valley, farms, the easier Champlain Area Trail System (CATS) hiking trails, the ferry to Burlington, Vt. To the west you will find Elizabethtown, the gateway to the high peaks region of the Adirondacks (Giant Mountain, Owls Head, Baxter, and more), and on to Keene, Keene Valley… Other things to note Please keep in mind... this is a camping experience. You may hear coyotes. You may see deer, raccoons, oppossums, toads, chipmunks, birds, and other wildlife. We have never yet seen bear or raccoons on our property, but it could happen, so please avoid leaving food out unattended. Be aware of mosquitos, biting flies, poison ivy and ticks. We recommend insect repellant. If you don't know what poison ivy looks like, I can show you. If you do touch poison ivy, be sure to scrub thoroughly with soap and cold water within 15 minutes. You'll find a first aid kit in the hallway drawers, if needed. The first aid kit contains an anti-itch solution. Check yourself carefully for ticks. There is a large mirror on the front porch with good light for this purpose. You can pull your socks up over your pant legs for protection. (No, it's not fashionable... but it could prevent a tick bite, so it might be worth your trouble.) It is important to remove them as soon as possible. Please note, this is a camping experience. Mice and spiders want to come inside. We are fighting a never-ending battle, with brooms, cleaning solutions, and traps. Please keep food inside the refrigerator or in snap-on bins (located under the bench seats in the dining area). We scrub and wash down surfaces. We are currently working on stuffing every edge and corner with stainless steel wool to become mouse proof. Wish us luck... We run all the dishes through the dishwasher before each visit. We appreciate your help in minimizing crumbs and other temptations. Relax, enjoy, and breathe in the amazing fresh, clean air. Hear the bird songs, enjoy the local waterfalls, mountain views, and endless hiking 🥾 opportunities (easy to challenging). If you’re not sure, I’m always happy to advise, based on my experience and comments from previous guests.
