Home is located right on the most amazing, fine sand beach with unforgetable tones of Caribbean blues, inviting you to relax and admire the natural beauty that surrounds you. Tuatea, which means "Crest of a Wave" welcomes you to spend a few days in this beautiful ocean front home on the protected side of Cat Island in the Bahamas. You may see a couple of yachts anchoring in the bay as you sip your coffee on the front deck. The mile long crescent bay invites you for a swim or kayaking The space Newly built (2023), single level home on private 0.75 acres with palm trees and mature pines providing shade, directly on a private sand beach. This is the most protected bay on Cat Island, located on the west side of the island facing Exuma sound (oh those amazing beautiful sunsets). The beach is about 1 mile long with crystal clear water and white sand, swimming is amazing and access to the bay is very gradual and children friendly. You can kayak, swim, snorkel and walk along the bay (house comes with a 2 person kayak, bring your own life jackets). The bay has a couple of small islands if you want to venture out on the kayak. At the distant end of the bay is an access to an expansive tidal creek area with water channels and sand bars and a unique ecosystem. Fernandez Bay Village, a small laid back boutique resort is a 5 min walk along the beach. You can call them to make a lunch or a dinner reservation-their food is excellent. Their Tiki bar is on an honor system! Expect to meet other amazing travelers and sailors who anchored in the bay for the night and are happy to share their stories. Airport is 10 min away. Cat Island can be reached by Western Air (25 min flight from Nassau) or Makers Air from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Renting a car is recommended and is easy to arrange. Call Alvernia Food Store to reserve your car. They will pick you up at the airport free of charge and you sign paperwork and get your car at their office next to Alvernia Food store. You can get groceries and drinking water supply right there as well (we have a dispenser for a 5 gal water container at the house). Guest access Guests can use the entire home, the large deck, the private beach and the grounds (the garage is only for owner's use). The house comes with beach lounge chairs and kayak, beach towels, linen, towels, shampoo/conditioner, soap and a well equipped kitchen. Directions to the property will be provided to guests after booking. It's only a 10 min drive from the airport. Other things to note Cat Island features the highest peak of the Bahamas. Mount Alvernia also known as Como Hill is 206 ft high. Mount Alvernia was named by Monsignor John Hawes, a Roman Catholic priest known to Cat Islanders as Father Jerome who was an accomplished architect. In 1939 he built a one person monastery from the local stone and erected Via crucis (Way of the Cross) on the steep hill leading to the monastery. A definitely a must see. A very spiritual site with beautiful 360 view of the island. Diving: Cat Island has some of the best drop-off and wall diving (200 yards from the anchor site is the end of the Continental shelf and over 20 miles of wall diving). For the second dive of the day there are untouched coral heads starting at about 20 feet. Please contact Greenwood Beach Resort to arrange a diving trip.
