Our Alaskan log house is perfect for a small family, couple or two couples traveling together. There is a fully set up kitchen for cooking including a refrigerator, electricity 24/7, gas grill on the large deck and a roomy private bathroom. The house has one bedroom, queen bed and a queen size sleeper sofa in the living room area. Each guest house is screened by natural vegetation for privacy but retains beautiful view to the surrounding mountains. The space The Copper is a lovely, custom designed and built Alaskan log house. The house is fully contemporary with power 24/7, hot and cold running water, private bathroom with tub and shower, full kitchen with all the pots and pans and utensils all provided. Additionally, there is a gas grill supplied out on the spacious deck where you'll be able to enjoy the views while grilling. There is also a table and chairs set on the deck for outdoor dining, relaxing or enjoying a beverage while enjoying the views. We are super convenient to get to and located right on the main road to McCarthy, Alaska. No need to schlep your luggage and groceries by walking or waiting for a pick up at the Kennicott River. You can drive right to your guest house door. Located only 2.5 miles from the end of the road you will enjoy our peace and quiet after a long day of adventuring in Kennecott, on the Root Glacier or rafting down the Kennicott River. We built our guest houses from scratch starting in 2003 and opened everything by the summer of 2006. All of the guest houses are made of locally sourced spruce logs and rough-cut lumber where we could use it. Nice touches that remind you of the railroad days are the rail spike coat hooks located in the house and the towel hooks in the bathrooms. We don't provide the following electric appliances because we are off the grid and provide all of our electricity with solar panels and a battery bank - Hair dryers, irons, tvs, electric coffee makers and microwave ovens. Guest access We have a total of 6 guest houses and you'll have to check in at the office to get the keys for your accommodations. We also have a large grass yard with toys, balls, frisbees, etc. for guests to use if they have energy after a full day of hiking around the area. We also have lots of firewood and a fire ring for your use. Other things to note We love to meet everyone and spend some time with as many visitors as possible. We produce all of our electricity with solar panels and store the energy in an industrial battery bank. You should expect unlimited power for charging your devices while visiting us. There are no irons, hair dryers, toasters or other electric appliances though. This helps us to conserve our electricity since we are fully off the grid. We recycle all glass, aluminum and burnable products. All organic food scraps are fed to our chickens so that we can get manure from them and get rid of smelly food wastes. We appreciate your help in sorting the recyclables in the handy, in-house containers provided. Occasionally there are large animals that wander through our yard and by our guest houses. If you encounter a bear or moose please give them the room they need to not feel cornered or threatened. If possible get to your guest house or in to your vehicle. Never feed or harass the wildlife please.
