The Wilcox House
The Ezra Wilcox House sits at the top of main street in the New England town of Collinsville, CT. Originally built in 1740, the traditional 'saltbox' house still features hand-cut chestnut beams, a large fireplace, and almost two acres of land. The house is a quick walk down the hill to town - where you'll find local shops and pubs, the Farmington River, and an adjacent 16 mile bicycle path. The space A couple of notes before you read on about the Wilcox House: 1. I am currently on the look out for a seasonal or multi-month rental for winter 2024/2025 while I am away. I am willing to talk about discounted rates for the right situation. 2.. In early days, airbnb was a platform that allowed home owners to share their homes while they were away; giving travelers a unique place to stay while on the road. In recent years, listings on the platform have evolved to be professional rentals, more like furnished hotels then personal homes. Note that this airbnb is from the former model - it is my personal home with personal items and mementos scattered throughout. The bedrooms are set aside for guests so drawers and closets are empty but the rest of the house (kitchen cabinets, fridge, etc.) will be stocked as if someone lives here. The upside - you have great spices at your disposal and a cozy, lived-in place! I get the house professionally cleaned before guests arrive but you'll see my belongings throughout the house. Given how much the platform has evolved, we thought this was worth noting! Ok - here is more about the house: This house is my personal home that I often share with family, guests, and friends. As such, it is filled with personal touches and I look to share it with people who will appreciate the care I put into it and are hoping to treat it as if it were their own. I keep a small bedroom downstairs and all upstairs bedrooms are ready for guests and visitors. The house features three bedrooms (two with queen beds, one with two twin beds) as well as a TV room with a fold-down full-sized sofa. This home is a place for gathering. An open kitchen looks over the cozy living room and a large coffee table is perfect for games and puzzles. The dining room comfortably fits 8 and the kitchen is fully stocked - many long meals have been had here. The front deck is perfect on a breezy morning and the yard features an outdoor fire pit, a swing, and - in summer months - an outdoor shower. The house is rustic and old, having been taken apart and rebuilt by hand in the 1960s, but cozy and great for piling in friends and family. Guest access Guests will have access to the full house (except my bedroom) and almost an acre of hill side land. Other things to note The town is one of the most adorable in New England. It has a two great pubs and a deli/breakfast spot/pizza place that is the hub of town. There is yoga in town as well as a rails-to-trails bike path, boat rentals, and great river swimming in summer. Ski Sundown is also just 15 minutes away.
