Our water mill built in 1735 and recently renovated is in the heart of the Loire Valley overlooking beautiful forest and peaceful Indre river; the region referred to as the Cradle of the French Language, and the Garden of France. Notable for its historic towns, architecture and wines, the valley has been inhabited since the Middle Palaeolithic period. In 2000, UNESCO added the central part of the Loire River valley to its list of World Heritage Sites. A bike ride away from Chateau de Cande where on 3 June 1937 the castle was the venue for the marriage between the Duke of Windsor, the former King Edward VIII, and the American Wallis Simpson. It is now open to public and strolling in the park is a delight . We are also close to Saché ( musée of French writer Balzac, and french home of American sculptor Calder ), Azay le Rideau ( one of the earliest Renaissance chateaux ), Villandry gardens ( The Chateau of Villandry is the last of the great chateaux of the Loire built during the Renaissance in the Loire Valley ), Ussé (the castle of sleeping beauty ). Just across the bridge from our mill is the oldest part of town with a coffe shop "chez Isabelle", 2 restaurants, newsagent, beauty salon, church, public library as well as a bus stop for direct transportation to Tours or Sache and to the local train station from where you will be reaching either downtown Tours (10 mn journey) or Poitiers if you are heading south. A little further down the road, is a pizzeria, a new spa complex with indoor swimming pool, supermarkets, gas station, post office and more.
