Charming, delightful house with pool in south-west France
This newly-refurbished 1830s country house sleeps up to 10 (6 adults and 4 children) and includes a beautiful pool, a large, enclosed garden and bags of character. The house is very family friendly, with high-speed Wifi and lots of games. The pool has sun-loungers as well as a corner sofa with a drinks table. The fields and forests conceal delightful secret lakes, and some of the best France has to offer is within easy reach, such as Aubeterre-sur-Dronne (one of the most beautiful villages in France), the seaside Dune de Pilât (the largest sand-dune in Europe), St Emilion, Cognac, Bergerac and Bordeaux. The house has air-conditioning for hot and cold days, a very well stocked kitchen for gourmet cooks, a smart TV and a piano. The veranda outside the kitchen has a long table for dinners and barbecues. The large garden has a goldfish-pond and heaps of room to play croquet and badminton. In the winter, the house is cosy with two wood-burners and solar-powered heating. While there are 3 bedrooms, on the landing there are two extra 'rooms' curtained off; children love these as they feel they have their own cosy dens. One of the beds can be easily rolled into the master bedroom if a child wants to sleep with their parents. The night sky is perfect for stargazing and shooting-star spotting. Nearby there is horse-riding, kayaking, go-karting, rail biking (yes, really!) and, of course, wine-tasting and great bistros. There are numerous beautiful trails through hills, forests and vineyards as well as bathing rivers and lakes with beaches, water-sports and café-restaurants. Numerous villages and towns close by have colourful farmers' markets, cafés and shops. Delicious bread and pastries can be delivered to the door in time for breakfast.
