Sharing the tree-filled yard with monkeys, birds & iguanas, this light, airy, teakwood home is just 50 meters from the beach, close to the heart of Sámara. Great nature views & ocean sounds. This airy house has an open-plan kitchen - living room with many artistic, original details in local recycled woods; terrace, outdoor dining, hammock & garden. You can walk anywhere from here & go barefoot to the beach! NOTE: We do NOT have AC and some windows have SCREENS (no glass) for more air flow!!! The space Poised on an side road that ends at the beach and is shared by the local language school, a food garden, a restaurant and other private lodgings, this unique and spacious house with its vaulted teak ceiling is shaded by mango, papaya, and cashew tres. Our fully furnished house is suitable for a couple or family (2 adults and 1 or 2 kids). The house has one large bedroom on the main floor and one SMALL mezzanine bedroom; one bath with a huge ceramic-tile mural done by a local artist, and an open-plan living room and kitchen with a pochote wood indoor-outdoor dining bar. We also have a beautiful outdoor terrace with large dining table, where you can relax in a hammock, watch the wildlife and listen to the sounds of the ocean. WiFi is included. Guests have their own entrance and access to the shared garage on the property (we have two other units on the property occupied by long-term renters and friends). Note: there are 4 steps to get up to the house, as it is raised on one-meter stilts. The yard is at ground level, and accesible off the terrace down these few stairs. The master bedroom has a king bed (two twin mattresses in a king frame) and is adjacent to the living room (open concept), separated by flowing curtains. The second mezzanine loft bedroom is up narrow stairs, and has a double mattress in the sleeping nook and interior balcony looking down into the kitchen/living area and out towards the Ocean. The steep stairs mean the upstairs bedroom is better for kids over 4, and we have an extra mattress in case each want their own bed. It can get very hot up there during the day, and would be small for adults. Inside the house, you can relax in our huge, comfy sofa and enjoy the locally crafted touches throughout. This airy, open plan space has no interior doors except for the bathroom, and is fully screened (no glass in key windows) to better take advantage of the ocean breezes. It is perfect for a laid-back family, couple or traveling friends looking to connect with the local community while living in a simple, beautiful space, steps from the beach. Again, with no AC, it can get hot, even with the many fans, so this is really something to consider and research before coming if you like AC!! Both rooms have fans, bedside tables, lamps, and a closet or shelves. Our unique furniture and most of the house is handmade by local woodworkers using local teak, recycled tropical woods and driftwood from the beach out front! The kitchen has an oven, 4 burner stove-top, mini-toaster oven, blender, hot water kettle, Costa Rican coffee drip, ample cooking and flatware, and comfortable seating for meals at the pochote-wood breakfast bar, the kitchen island, and the large outdoor mosaic dining table. In the interest of full disclosure, as with any rental in the town of Sámara, nature and people can get noisy, such as the early morning roosters, iguanas, howler monkeys, birds, music, or late-night returners from the bars in town. To that end we have loud floor fans that work great for drowning out outside noise. If you need silence to sleep, though, this may not be the place for you! We love our house and its original "tico" style - but it is not a luxury hotel! It’s more like rustic chic, so please keep that in mind when deciding whether to choose us! We ask that guests turn off fans when not in use, both to help the environment and to keep costs down for future renters. This is a NON-SMOKING PROPERTY, both house and gardens. Guest access For the use of our guests, we have books for adults and kids, board games, and Wifi. Guests are also welcome to enjoy the beautiful beachfront gardens and facilities of the Spanish language school (diagonal to the house) that I co-own, are offered a 20% discount on our group Spanish classes, and can take yoga, Latin dance, zumba and cooking classes at the local rate, space permitting. You may also consult with our travel planning staff and resources for advice on trips around the country and to book local tours at the school at student rates. Other things to note We love to host other families, couples, and solo travelers ... anyone wanting a laid-back, relaxed, tranquil atmosphere, close to everything, but something other than the typical, insulated hotel experience. The house is rustic-chic, with screens to let in the ocean breezes, but no AC! We are 100% NO CIGARETTES, both in the house and gardens, so please do not rent this if you foresee anyone in your group smoking - the house absorbs the odor and would need to be professional cleaned at significant extra cost. The space is large, green, great for kids, who love to run around the garden, pick fruit, climb trees and meet the neighbours' and other local kids - really easy to do at the beach! I have two daughters, aged 14 and 23, and María and Patxi, our lovely Spanish neighbours in the next-door unit have a daughter aged 11. As with everywhere at the beach, you will probably see some bugs, and geckos abound, but we like them because they eat the mosquitos! (Any droppings you see are from the geckos, not mice!) We can help you arrange childcare or bilingual kínder and school options, for those staying for longer periods. During the school year we are back and forth between Samara and Heredia, but our friendly neighbours are there to give advice, and our lovely handyman Lázaro is a wealth of information and can fix anything you need. We receive many women travelling alone because of the safe location, proximity to beach and neighbours, and the access to our language school across the street for activities and meeting other solo travelers.
