Welcome to your quintessential Maine getaway. Nestled in a serene coastal village on a private cove, our cottage offers a perfect blend of historic charm and modern comforts. With stunning ocean views, this cozy retreat is ideal for those seeking nature, tranquility and a true Downeast Maine experience. Family and doggy friendly. 5 miles to downtown Lubec, brewery, restaurants, shops, hiking trails around. 3 bedrooms (2 queen, 2 twins), library, equipped kitchen, working fireplaces, steep stairs The space The Cove Cottage is quiet and secluded, just a few homes on the cove. There is a barn on the property that is NOT occupied, the entire property is just yours. The barn is currently used for storage, but the upper deck -- one of the best views of The Grand Mannan Island and Bay of Fundy -- is available for you to enjoy, highly recommend coffee to cocktails and sunset. We even pack a little basket to bring up with some goodies to nosh on. Main First Floor: - Entryway: has a mudroom with laundry and doggy feeding bowls. There is an original old soapstone sink where you can wash your beach finds in or if you dare to dig for mussels or clams, great spot to rinse all off. The laundry machine is a washer and dryer in one -- and really meant only for small loads. The cycle for wash and dry does take almost 2 hours, so during summer, it's easier to just wash and dry clothes outside on the deck railing. We don't recommend washing true whites, as the water at the cottage has some iron in it. We have a filtration system, but would not want anything of yours to be discolored. The water is safe for all use, except drinking. - Kitchen: There is a fully equipped kitchen on the first floor. We love to cook, so we tried to have many of the essentials there for you, plus some extras -- like local blended sea salt, Eastport roasted coffee beans (yes we have a grinder for those coffee loves like us) and lots of great dishes, cookware and fun glasses for libations. We also have some libations in the dining room that are yours to enjoy... our idea is take a little, leave a litte behind should you not finish up what you purchased... but no obligation ever at the Cove Cottage. Please note that we are sorry that the water is not drinkable, it is safe for all other use. This is very common in this area due to a lot of granite and minerals. The iron count is just above what it should be, and while there is a filtration system to make it safe for all other use, please drink bottled water. We typically have a gallon for you upon arrival and recommend that you go to the dollar general, they sell a large 2 gallon waters, less plastic waste. - Breakfast Room/Dining: There is an open concept dining area off the kitchen with awesome water views. The cottage has all new windows for ease of opening and closing to get that perfect breeze or sound of the crashing waves. There is a working woodstove in this space which is perfect for that chilly or rainy, foggy day or evening. - Dining and Game Room: There is a full large dining room and game room for your enjoyment. We've placed a dog bed in there for your furry family member, feel free to move it about if your pups wants to sleep with you upstairs or elsewhere. We've got several games, puzzles and also a curiosity beach table where we place our beach finds .. its so fun to collect, if you happen to leave something there, it's always fun to see what my guests feel is beachworthy. The eye is always in the beholder. We intentionally have plastic comfy chairs in here so you can feel that you can wear your bathing suit.. make a puzzle or have a lobster dinner in here, such a great spot. - Library and Living Room: This is our favorite room on the first floor, while it's located in the back of the house, it has a door leading to a new stone patio and picnic table where you have great views of the ocean. This room is filled with a wide variety of books, some fine and fun, historical reads. Take time and read a book. There is a comfy sofa and swivel chairs and working fireplace. For this fireplace, we stock a firelog and prefer that vs. using wood to make bigger fires. The wifi modem is also in this room. There is no TV by choice, but feel free to use your own device should you want to have a movie night. There is also an old radio in this room that was the previous owners that weve kept... you can pickup some cool Canadian stations and music you've likely not heard... it's fun to use and brings us back to a simpler time. - Bathroom: There is a full bath on the first floor. Stocked with essentials -- shampoo, conditioner, shower wash, hair dryer and toilet paper. We try to keep enough towels ready for you here based on the number of guests you have. Second Floor: - The stairs to the second floor are original to the house. They are steep, but we've added a handrail. I recently painted them with some fun sea creatures to bring better visibility to the steps. Please be careful on them. - Bedroom 1 and 2: 2 full size bedrooms, queen beds, ocean views in both -- with high quality egyptian cotton 800 thread count sheets and nice bedding encourage cozy sleeping and lazy mornings. We highly recommend a rainy foggy morning in bed from this vantage point. One bedroom has a door and the other doesn't just as an FYI. There is a third bedroom off of one of the main bedrooms that is very spacious and has 2 twin beds and is also a great playroom -- this is typically the overflow or kids room. Outside Living: - The front deck is awesome and spacious, full ocean views and we recently built a seat railing around the whole thing for sitting, eating and dropping your beach collections off to dry. We have lots of outdoor adirondeck furniture to enjoy and a small table top grill if you want to grill. We recommend using this on a rock or the cement patio vs. wood picnic table to minimize any risk of a fire. The full yard is yours to enjoy, pick wild flowers in the field. The barn upper deck is for guest use (barn is locked and is for storage). We do ask if you bring your pups, please clean up after them so future guests can enjoy and do the same. Its so great to offer the cottage for families and fur babies, as we take our dogs everywhere with us, so I wanted this to be open for those families also wanting to do the same. Lubec is very dog friendly. The Lubec Brewing Company allows pups inside and in the Beer Garden. Beach Access: - The Cove Cottage sits across from the ocean on the very special and preserved Carrying Place Cove. The Cove is accessible from a private walk just down the way. The owners are lovely and know me so it should not be an issue. The other access is from the main road, just go down the road toward South LUbec road and take a right turn and parking is down the way on the left. Cross the street and walk the field to the beach. It is so wonderful high and low tide to just chill and have pups run. The water is typically cold, so not a great swimming area that far up in Maine. You can beach comb at low tide. We do not recommend kayaking off of the cove, the fog changes in a minute and in the past few years there have been accidents and rescues as you literally can't see the land. Guest access The entire home and yard are all yours during your stay, very private. The barn interior is not accessible, just used for storage, but the top deck on the barn is yours to use. Other things to note A reminder that the water at the house has a higher iron content, even with a brand new well. It is safe for all use other than drinking. We start you off with a gallon of spring water, but recommend buying the large 2 gallon at dollar general, it's less expensive and less plastic to the planet.
