Just 15 minutes inland from a coastal resort town, Dominical, this quiet home is perfectly situated within an old farm, surrounded by tropical jungle landscape. The elevation provides more breeze and cooler temperatures than the beach. As of 2025 we have rooftop solar hot water and most of our electricity is solar with battery backup. So, power supply is dependable and renewable! Also enjoy dependable fiber optic internet. Note our 45% discount for stays of 4 weeks or longer. The space Enjoy tropical trees, plants and flowers and watching toucans, parrots, falcons, and butterflies that visit the grounds in the early morning and afternoons from hammocks and cozy chairs. Every morning the howler monkeys can be heard welcoming the day. The 1100 ft elevation ensures a more comfortable temperature, even when it's steamy at the beach. The house is not air conditioned, but ceiling fans and the house’s location allows for comfortable air movement. The mostly-shaded deck offers a perfect place for relaxing, drinking Costa Rican coffee, reading books, and watching the jungle. The dining area consists of an oversized table overlooking the deck and green jungle beyond. The kitchen has granite countertops, an island, as well as a comfortable sitting area. There are good hikes directly from the house. One steep trail leads down the back hillside to an amazing small private waterfall. The gravel roads in our community are also beckoning. We have a swimming hole and river hiking on the Diamante and Baru Rivers. There are world class waterfalls in either direction, including the most photographed waterfall in Costa Rica, Nauyaca. Other activities within easy day trip range include hiking, surfing, kayaking, rafting, horseback riding, snorkeling, scuba diving, zip lining, farmer’s markets, bird and wildlife watching, as well as relaxing and soaking up the simple life. Sleeping Accommodations The home sleeps 6-7 people comfortably. Two bedrooms are equipped with full sized beds and the third bedroom has a teak bunk bed. We have a single bed in an extra room and floor space for mattress. Two bathrooms are located on either side of the house with hot water. There is also a sublime outdoor shower. Children are welcome, but the house may be unsuitable for families with small toddlers or children who would climb on the deck railing. Cooking Accommodations Make use of the fully-equipped indoor kitchen by cooking up stir fries and fresh fish from the ocean. Produce is largely organic and purchased locally at several farmers' markets, which also offer free-range eggs, goat milk, cheese, yogurt, and fresh corn tortillas, artisan breads, and gorgeous produce, as well as, many other foods, jewelry, clothing and pastry items. Internet is stable with fast, fiber optic WIFI throughout the house. Longer stays We offer up to 45% discount for stays of 4 weeks. Generally, we limit stays to a month, but will consider extensions and offer special deals for returning guests. For longer stays, we prefer to keep up with weekly cleaning service. This is partly to keep our staff employed and partly because we have learned that tropical living requires a lot of diligent maintenance. So, Chandra will try to coordinate with you a few mornings when we can clean and do a load of laundry. Also, Chandra and another elderly woman live unobtrusively in casitas on the property. So, you may see them and other workers on the property occasionally. Most of our guests appreciate the cleaning and maintenance, but please let us know if it feels inconvenient in any way. Please look under the section "House Rules" for other information and Frequently Asked Questions. Other things to note Toaster and clothes dryer replaced in 2023. Refrigerator replaced in 2025, but may need replacement again. Please let us know if insects are a problem. We live amongst nature, so at times bees (and birds) nest around the house and ants can be a nuisance. So, we try to diligently deal with these issues.
