Our place is perfect for two adults (no children, sorry) to get away. We are pet friendly with certain limitations, however (read House Rules below). Our off-the-grid log cabin is great for a private, romantic weekend, a contemplative retreat or base camp for adventures around Hood Canal and the Olympic Peninsula. There are good restaurants nearby with indoor and outdoor dining and take out service. We have a stunning view of Hood Canal and the Olympic mountains right from your deck. The space A perfect get-a-way for two adults (no children, sorry) in a small cottage with water and mountain views from the deck. This is a very small private space with everything you need to be comfortable, and is really only appropriate for two adults. Note that there is a concrete sidewalk and stepping pads on a slope that may be difficult for some guests (anyone with limited mobility). Fold out double sofa-bed with memory foam topper, kitchenette, shower and flush toilet. However, be informed that because of the small space there is no sink in the bathroom; the sink in the kitchenette is adequate and has an extendable two sided mirror for shaving, make-up, etc. Your bedding is in the trunk in front of the sofa bed. After you take out what you need (there are two eiderdown quilts and a top sheet in there; the bottom sheet is already on the mattress), you will need to scoot the trunk under the big table to make room for the bed when you open it. Great restaurants, hiking, kayaking and outdoor activities abound. BBQ, beach access and WiFi. There's a lot to do locally, but if rest and quiet relaxation are what you need, this is also the place. There is room for a small (25 pounds or less), well behaved dog. If you are bringing a pet there is a $25 pet cleaning fee. We love dogs, we have dogs and dogs love our place! But since our cabin is very small we ask that any dogs staying with you must be 25 pounds or less...no exceptions. Further, we do have some limitations and rules we expect to be followed: 1. Your dog must be house broken. 2. Your dog must be friendly with other dogs, small children and adults. 3. Your pet is not allowed on the fold out bed when it is folded up. 4. Dogs are not allowed to sleep with you in the fold out bed. 5. You may not wash your pet in the shower. 6. Your dog must be crate or dog bed trained if you leave it alone. Please read the House Rules for additional details. As mentioned above, we have a stunning view of Hood Canal and the Olympic mountains right from your deck (and by the way, if you book our place for the Fourth of July you will have a bird's eye view of the annual Alderbrook fireworks show - it's spectacular). Look for pictures in our listing photos. Both the view and fireworks are unmatched!! The cabin is separate from the main house, set in a corner of the property with views of the water and mountains. It is small and semi-private (we sometimes enjoy our patio outside that is about 50 feet away from the cabin deck). Enjoying the deck in front is very pleasant at any time of day. Enjoy your coffee in the morning or a libation in the afternoon. Access is from the parking area at the top of the property through our yard, past a small log play house, our vegetable garden and the main house. Hand built in the 1930's by my grandparents, the cottage reminds one of a "Hobbit" house (people six feet tall and up will have to watch not to bump their heads on entry and exit) and has been used by many guests, family and visitors over the years. It has been moved at least three times from its original location. There is history here! It has been completely remodeled and is clean, comfortable and up-to-date in all respects. You will find all the conveniences of home in a cozy cottage (except a TV). We have two very friendly dogs on the property. Ted (see photos) is our dog, a two year old rescue who still acts like a puppy and is anxious to meet new people and other dogs. Luna (see photos) is my sister's 8 year old Flat Coat Retriever, who will excitedly greet you warmly. She is very friendly, may bark, but will not bite. If she pesters you too much (she loves new company) feel free to shoo her away or tell her to go home. We don't let either of the dogs into the cabin and ask that you not do so, either. You have free Guest WiFi with a dedicated password. Guest access We have a small beach with a deck and dock across the street that guests may use with permission. It's great for picnics, sunbathing, swimming or boating (kayaks, canoes, paddleboards and more). You will need to provide your own water toys, beach shoes (no open toes), towels (please do not use the towels in the cottage...ask us for beach towels) and fishing gear. Use the beach and dock at your own risk, be careful and please clean up after yourselves, leaving things as you found them. Please ask us to show you around and provide an orientation to the dock and beach before you go. Other things to note Because countries, states and counties may be changing their COVID-19 restrictions and recommendations our statements regarding COVID-19 may not be completely up-to-date. Please let us know of any questions or concerns you have and we will respond with the current requirements for our area. While we have children and grandchildren of our own, and love them to pieces, we have had to institute a "No Children" policy due to the small size of the cabin. Taller guests will have to watch not to bump their heads at the entry and bathroom doors, as well as on the support beam between the living area and kitchenette. The full size folding bed mattress is 72" long when opened, so six footers will be comfortable; we offer two eiderdown quilts with duvet covers and an extra queen size comforter that will accommodate taller people since it is not tucked in at the bottom. Be aware that there is no sink in the bathroom; the kitchenette sink will have to do double duty, but is perfectly adequate with an extension mirror. Note that there is a concrete sidewalk and stepping pads on a slope that may be difficult for some guests (anyone with limited mobility). PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW FOR OPENING AND CLOSING THE SOFA-BED. A COPY IS ALSO IN THE CABIN ORIENTATION BOOK AND ON THE BOOKCASE. SOFA-BED INSTRUCTIONS: Please read and follow these instructions to avoid problems opening and closing the bed. Opening the bed: 1.Put the cushions out of your way. 2.Grasp the bar in the middle of the frame with one hand. 3.Pull up vertically and at the same time grasp the bar on the bottom of the frame with your other hand and pull towards you. 4.Lift up on the bar that says “Lift Here” to unsnap the frame. 5.Unfold the frame so the frame and mattress lay flat and it looks like a bed. 6.Pull the mattress down to the foot of the frame so it rests against the wire stops at the bottom. Closing the bed: 1.Pull the mattress down to the foot of the frame so it rests against the wire stops at the bottom. 2.Make sure the 3” memory foam mattress topper is also pulled down to the bottom. 3.Holding the memory foam and mattress together with one hand, lift up and fold the frame and mattress forward towards the head of the bed. 4.When the frame and mattress are folded as far as they will go, you will then need to push down on the bar that says “Lift Here” to snap the frame into place. 5.Now lift up on the bar in the middle of the frame and simultaneously push forward (toward the head of the bed) and down to fold the frame and mattress back into place. Make sure the memory foam and mattress are not jammed under the backboard of the sofa. If you have any difficulty, please do not force the mattress and frame into place. Rather, get ahold of us and we’ll help.
