Your stay here will be an irreplaceable life experience for you In the beautiful scenery of Lake Maggiore with its Islands, Isola Madre, Isola Bella and Isola Pescatori surrounded by the Alps and Pre-Alps in the Verbano Cusio Ossola triangle, our Relais Le Primule is located, and more exactly in Ossola, Municipality of Premia in Val Antigorio e Formazza a few kilometers away from Verbania, Domodossola, Stresa, Switzerland. Milano Malpensa Airport is about 110 km away by highway . The area is wedged in the Swiss territory, the "northern triangle" of Ossola: the landscape is characterized by the presence of the Toce River that runs entirely through the valley, but divided into two culturally distinct entities. The Valle Antigorio is Latin and romance, walser and German is Val Formazza. Walking along the Val d 'Ossola from the south, you come across the so-called "antique Riviera", or a strip of villages on a gentle slope and facing east: they are Mozzio, Viceno, Cravegna, Crodo ,Baceno and Premia. Thelatter is the economic capital of the valley and is home to the most famous spa station in Piedmont. Until 1941, gold was mined in the valley: the underground is in fact rich in mineral varieties, so much so that Ossola is considered the most important mineralogical district in Italy and houses the Museum of Earth Sciences, at the Centro Studi Gnocchi, in Crodo. Entering the territory of Val Formazza there is a different size: only in 1920, in fact, the valley was well connected to the rest of Italy by a "rolling stock" and this substantial isolation, which lasted for centuries, has allowed us to maintain a strong cultural specificity. In the buildings it dominates the "serizzo", a dark-colored stone used for both the houses and the monuments of the area. The natural landscape is characterized by woods, pastures and alpine ponds while the human environment is strongly influenced by Walser culture. The customs of this population, migrated from the Valais lands in the 12th century, are coded in the Thalbuch. Formazza is the collective name that collects nine villages, all inhabited: Ponte is the historic center and is the ski resort of the valley. The emergencies of greatest natural interest are the Rio d 'Alba waterfall, the Sasso di Premia, the Orridi di Balmafredda, S.Lucia, Arvera, Balmasurda and Uriezzo. Thelatter, dry and visitable, consists of a series of cavities circular in the rock and covers about one hundred and fifty meters. Also interesting is the Walser village of Salecchio, now uninhabited but lively, during the summer, by numerous occasions. But above all, the Toce Waterfall stands out, known as one of the most beautiful jumps in Europe. 143 meters high was the destination of illustrious visitors such as Richard Wagner, Gabriele d 'Annunzio or the Queen of Italy Margaret. The waterfall is only open in the summer months: throughout the year its waters are used for hydroelectric purposes. Appreciated hiking destinations are the Uriezzo Orridi, Alpe Devero,Salecchio,Alpe Vova, Lake Kastel and Toggia, etc. Guest access Its main connotation consists of the extreme ease of reaching it together with the general context, consisting of the views of wide alpeggi and mountains above the Toce River, famous for its waterfall and the artificial lake of Piedilago, the enel basin that powers the hydroelectric power station of Verampio. The property features a large garden for outdoor activities, as well as parking inside. The Piedilago hamlet consisting of a small group of buildings has the prerogative of a very quiet and evocative corner, for those who wish to spend a stay in absolute serenity away from the typical disturbances of the heavily populated areas, but with the advantage of reaching in a few minutes, restaurants, shops, services, etc., in the municipality of Premia.
