The market town of Alnwick with the famous Alnwick Castle and Alnwick Garden is only 9 miles to the north and definitely worth a visit, you could also pop in to Barter Books one of the largest secondhand bookshops in Britan, which includes a cafe where in the winter you can sit next to a roaring open fire.
